| Weekend Actuals Update: |
| With updated estimates, Godzilla vs. Kong came in a bit higher than initially estimated with an estimated first place take of $7.845 million. |
| Meanwhile, both Universal's Nobody and Sony's The Unholy finished essentially on par with their respective studio estimates, as Nobody claimed second with $2.500 million and The Unholy
took third with $2.051 million. |
| Other weekend actuals for the frame include: Raya and the Last Dragon ($1.922 million), Voyagers ($779,317), The Girl Who Believes in Miracles ($556,000), In the Earth ($505,723),
The Courier ($440,005), The Croods: A New Age ($304,825), Chaos Walking ($209,761), The Marksman ($162,548), The Father ($139,787) and Promising Young Woman ($99,915). |
| Weekend Estimates Update: |
| Coming as no surprise, Warner Bros. and Legendary's Godzilla vs. Kong easily led the weekend box office for a third consecutive frame after taking in an estimated $7.71 million this weekend.
Godzilla vs. Kong was down a reasonable 44 percent from last weekend's performance. While Godzilla vs. Kong stabilized this weekend after its sharp second weekend decline over the previous frame, the film is still
displaying signs of continued front-loading. In the bigger picture, Godzilla vs. Kong continues to pad its total as the highest grossing film since the re-opening of domestic theatres, with a strong 19-day total of
$80.52 million. Next weekend Godzilla vs. Kong will face new competition from both fellow Warner Bros. release Mortal Kombat and Funimation's Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train, but even with that in mind,
Godzilla vs. Kong is still in very good shape to become the first film since re-opening to reach the $100 million domestic milestone. |
| This weekend saw Godzilla vs. Kong pass the $300 million international mark after the film grossed an estimated $12.2 million internationally for the frame. Through Sunday, respective estimated totals for
Godzilla vs. Kong stand at $309.7 million internationally and $390.2 million globally. Impressively, Godzilla vs. Kong has already surpassed both the $386.6 million total global haul of 2019's
Godzilla: King of the Monsters and the $363.7 million global total of Tenet (to become the highest grossing American release globally since the re-opening of theatres). International totals through Sunday for
Godzilla vs. Kong by market include $177.1 million in China, $19.1 million in Australia, $17.3 million in Mexico, $12.1 million in Taiwan, $11.6 million in Russia, $8.9 million in India, $6.4 million in Spain, $6.3 million in Thailand,
$5.9 million in South Korea and $5.4 million in Vietnam. To date, Godzilla vs. Kong has grossed an estimated $35.0 million from global IMAX screens
($6.6 million domestically and $28.4 million internationally including $22.0 million from China), which represents 9 percent of the film's overall global take. |
| Universal's Nobody held steady in second place with an estimated $2.52 million. Nobody had an exceptional hold for a second straight weekend, as the film declined a slim 5 percent from last weekend.
This weekend's hold was even more impressive when considering that Nobody became available on PVOD on Friday. Nobody has grossed a healthy $19.05 million through 24 days, as the film remains the fourth highest grossing
film of 2021 thus far domestically. Internationally, Nobody grossed an estimated $1.38 million this weekend from 13 markets. Respective totals through Sunday for Nobody stand at $15.5 million internationally and
$34.5 million globally. |
| Sony's The Unholy grossed an estimated $2.06 million to remain in third place. The PG-13 horror film from Screen Gems continues to hold up very well for its genre, as The Unholy only declined
14 percent from last weekend. The Unholy received an additional boost this weekend from playing in 207 more locations than it did last weekend (for a total of 2,057 locations). With a 17-day take of $9.56 million,
The Unholy already has a current total gross to opening weekend ratio of 3.03 to 1. |
| Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon took in an estimated $1.90 million to hold steady in fourth. Raya and the Last Dragon continued to hold up very nicely, as the film was down just 14 percent from
last weekend. Thanks in part to strong holding power, Raya and the Last Dragon has grossed $37.67 million through 45 days (for a current total gross to opening weekend ratio of 4.43 to 1). Look for Raya and the Last Dragon
to continue to hold up well going forward, especially with no new animated family films entering the marketplace until the release of Universal and DreamWorks Animation's Spirit Untamed on June 4. |
| Warner's Tom & Jerry was up one spot from last weekend to round out this weekend's top five with an estimated $1.09 million. That was down only 10 percent from last weekend. The 52-day domestic total for
Tom & Jerry stands at $42.58 million. Like Raya and the Last Dragon, Tom & Jerry should also continue to have strong holds in the weeks ahead. Internationally Tom & Jerry grossed an estimated $2.3 million
this weekend, including a third weekend gross of $1.4 million in Australia (where the film has grossed $6.4 million to date). Through Sunday, respective totals for Tom & Jerry stand at $62.8 million internationally and
$105.4 million globally. |
| In its second weekend, Lionsgate's Voyagers was down one spot and a respectable 43 percent from last weekend to land in sixth with an estimated $0.79 million. The second weekend percentage decline for
Voyagers was similar to the 40 percent fellow Lionsgate release Chaos Walking decreased during its second weekend back in March. However, going forward Voyagers is likely to start falling off significantly faster
than Chaos Walking did. The ten-day total for Voyagers stands at a soft $2.56 million. |
| Atlas Distribution's The Girl Who Believes in Miracles held up well again this weekend to claim seventh with an estimated $0.56 million. The faith-based film was essentially unchanged from last weekend's
performance and all three of the film's weekend grosses thus far have been quite similar to one another. The 17-day total for The Girl Who Believes in Miracles stands at a promising $2.01 million
(which already gives the film a current total gross to opening weekend ratio of 3.48 to 1). |
| In moderate release, NEON's In the Earth debuted with an estimated $0.51 million from 547 locations. That was good enough for eighth place among all films this weekend and gave the Ben Wheatley directed
horror film a per-location average of $925 for the frame. In the Earth likely received a bit of a boost this weekend from its critical reviews, which have tended to be good. |
| In international box office news, Warner's Mortal Kombat took in an estimated $5.7 million this weekend from 28 markets. To date Mortal Kombat has grossed $19.2 million internationally, including
$9.6 million from Russia (where the film grossed $1.9 million this weekend). International debuts for Mortal Kombat this weekend included $0.73 million in Mexico, $0.67 million in Indonesia and $0.58 million in Spain. In the
coming week, Mortal Kombat will open in Australia and day-and-date domestically (theatrically and on streaming via HBO Max on Friday, April 23). |
| Sony's Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway continued to hold up very nicely in Australia and New Zealand with an estimated $2.4 million from the two markets (with $2.2 million of that gross coming from Australia).
To date, Peter Rabbit 2 has grossed $14.7 million internationally (with $13.5 million of that total coming from Australia). Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway is currently scheduled to open domestically on June 18. |
