Weekend Actuals Update:

With actuals, Universal and DreamWorks Animation's The Croods: A New Age finished just ahead of its weekend estimate with a first place take of $1.718 million.

Other weekend actuals for the frame include: The Marksman ($781,706), Monster Hunter ($520,504), Land ($500,010), News of the World ($241,805), The War with Grandpa ($233,262), The Mauritanian ($137,072) & Promising Young Woman ($104,610).

Actual grosses for Warner Bros. releases and Searchlight's Nomadland are not currently being reported.

Weekend Estimates Update:

Universal and DreamWorks Animation's The Croods: A New Age took in an estimated $1.70 million this weekend to lead the domestic box office for a second consecutive frame and for the fifth time overall (during a now thirteen-week run). In the process, The Croods: A New Age passed the $50 million domestic mark this weekend; making it just the second film to reach the $50 million domestic mark since theatres re-opened this past August (joining Warner's Tenet). The estimated 89-day total for The Croods: A New Age stands at $50.85 million. That gives the film a strong current total gross to opening weekend ratio of 5.23 to 1. The Croods: A New Age was down a slim 18 percent from last weekend's three-day take, as the computer animated sequel continues to benefit from good critical reviews, strong word of mouth and the lack of new competition for family audiences. The Croods: A New Age will finally face new competition for family audiences next weekend, when Warner's Tom & Jerry opens day-and-date theatrically and via streaming on HBO Max this coming Friday. The following week on March 5, Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon will open day-and-date theatrically and via streaming as a Premier Access title on Disney+. After adding an estimated $0.42 million internationally this weekend, respective estimated international and global totals for The Croods: A New Age currently stand at $103.2 million internationally and $154.0 million globally.

Warner's The Little Things was up one spot from last weekend to move into second place this weekend with an estimated $1.21 million. The Little Things declined a solid 39 percent from last weekend's three-day frame (which places last weekend's three-day gross at roughly $1.98 million). The Little Things likely took a larger hit than most other wide releases from some theatres being closed throughout parts of Texas this weekend (due to the aftermath of the winter storm that hit the state), as The Little Things has been performing relatively strong in Texas. The estimated 24-day total for The Little Things stands at a respectable $11.76 million. Next weekend will represent the last weekend that The Little Things is still available on HBO Max, before it becomes a theatrical-only title. Internationally, The Little Things grossed an estimated $1.9 million this weekend from 29 markets, including debuts of $1.4 million in Australia and $0.15 million in New Zealand. Through Sunday, respective estimated total grosses for The Little Things stand at $8.0 million internationally and $19.8 million globally. Additional current total grosses by market include $2.7 million in Russia, $1.4 million in Saudi Arabia and $0.66 million in the United Arab Emirates. The Little Things will open in Spain this coming Friday and the following week in Mexico on Thursday, March 4.

Fellow Warner Bros. release Judas and the Black Messiah was down one spot from last weekend to claim third place with an estimated $0.91 million. The awards season hopeful declined a sharp 55 percent from last weekend's three-day start (which places last weekend's three-day performance at roughly $2.01 million). The film's second weekend decline was nearly on par with the 57 percent second weekend decline of The Little Things two weeks ago. While HBO Max is clearly taking a toll on the second weekend performances of Warner Bros. releases, Judas and the Black Messiah having a similar second weekend decline to The Little Things is a concerning sign nonetheless given the much stronger critical reviews and word of mouth for Judas and the Black Messiah (which received an A rating on CinemaScore). The ten-day total for Judas and the Black Messiah stands at an estimated $3.36 million.

Warner Bros. also claimed fourth place this weekend, as Wonder Woman 1984 grossed an estimated $0.81 million. That represented a decline of just 27 percent from last weekend (which places last weekend's three-day take at roughly $1.10 million). The 59-day total for Wonder Woman 1984 stands at $42.73 million, which is the third highest domestic gross of any film since theatres re-opened (behind only Tenet and The Croods: A New Age). Internationally, Wonder Woman 1984 grossed an estimated $1.0 million this weekend, including a debut of $0.50 million in Hong Kong. Respective estimated totals through Sunday for Wonder Woman 1984 stand at $116.8 million internationally and $159.5 million globally.

Open Road and Briarcliff's The Marksman rounded out the weekend's top five with an estimated $0.78 million. The Marksman was down a very solid 30 percent from last weekend's three-day performance. The 38-day total for The Marksman stands at an estimated $11.45 million. That gives the film a current total gross to opening weekend ratio of 3.69 to 1.

Other holdover grosses this weekend included an estimated $0.51 million for Sony's Monster Hunter and an estimated $0.50 million for Focus' Land. Monster Hunter was down only 25 percent from last weekend, while Land declined a respectable 44 percent from last weekend's three-day opening. Respective total grosses stand at $13.41 million for Monster Hunter through 66 days and at a modest $1.63 million for Land through ten days.

While an official estimate for Disney and Searchlight's Nomadland isn't being released this weekend, unofficial estimates place the film's performance this weekend in the same neighborhood as Monster Hunter and Land. After being released exclusively on select IMAX screens back on January 29, Nomadland went into semi-wide theatrical release this weekend (unofficially in 1,150 to 1,200 locations) and was also released via streaming on Hulu. The critically acclaimed Chloé Zhao directed film starring Frances McDormand is one of this year's awards season favorites. Hopefully at some point down the line an official update on the film's box office performance will be given.

On the limited front, IFC Films' Blithe Spirit debuted with an estimated $98,100 from 239 locations (for a per-location average of $410). The Edward Hall directed film stars Dan Stevens, Leslie Mann, Isla Fisher and Judi Dench. Blithe Spirit was released day-and-date this weekend theatrically and on PVOD. IFC Films notes that the film performed well on Apple Movies this weekend (hitting the overall top 10 there this weekend).

Meanwhile, STXfilms' The Mauritanian declined a slim 18 percent in its second weekend to take in an estimated $0.135 million from 287 locations (for a per-location average of $470), while Screen Media Films' Willy's Wonderland decreased a very slim 9 percent in its second weekend to gross an estimated $88,579 from 171 locations (for a per-location average of $518). Respective ten-day totals stand at $0.35 million for The Mauritanian and at $0.22 million for Willy's Wonderland.

In international news, Warner's Tom & Jerry grossed an estimated $2.4 million in its second weekend. Tom & Jerry played in 16 international markets this weekend and has grossed $4.4 million internationally to date. This weekend saw Tom & Jerry debut with $0.75 million in Brazil and $0.39 million in Mexico. Additional current totals by market for Tom & Jerry include $0.90 million in the United Arab Emirates, $0.74 million in Taiwan and $0.64 million in Singapore. Next weekend Tom & Jerry will open in another 20 international markets, including China, Russia and South Korea, while also opening domestically day-and-date theatrically and on HBO Max.
