| Weekend Actuals Update: |
| Based on today's revised global ($132.1 million) and international ($99.5 million) totals for Wonder Woman 1984, the film has grossed $32.6 million domestically through Sunday, which would keep this weekend's
gross at $3.0 million. |
| Actual grosses for this weekend include: The Croods: A New Age ($1.811 million), News of the World ($1.236 million), Monster Hunter ($1.106 million), Fatale ($656,606),
Promising Young Woman ($566,285), Pinocchio ($221,022) and The War with Grandpa ($145,822). |
| Weekend Estimates Update: |
| Warner's Wonder Woman 1984 led the domestic box office for a third consecutive frame after taking in an estimated $3.00 million this weekend. That represented a 44 percent decline from last weekend, which
is a solid hold for a higher-profile film the weekend after New Year's weekend, though it should also be noted that holdovers in general this weekend held up better than usual for the weekend after New Year's weekend due in part to no
new wide releases entering the marketplace. Nonetheless, it was important that Wonder Woman 1984 began to stabilize this weekend following the film's very sharp second weekend decline. The 17-day total for Wonder Woman 1984
stands at an estimated $32.60 million. Also of note with regard to the film's domestic performance, is that Wonder Woman 1984 has grossed an estimated $7.2 million from PVOD in Canada thus far. Wonder Woman 1984 was
released day-and-date in Canada due to the vast majority of theatres in Canada currently being closed. Wonder Woman 1984 will face new competition next weekend when Open Road and Briarcliff's Liam Neeson-led The Marksman
enters the marketplace this coming Friday. |
| Internationally, Wonder Woman 1984 grossed an estimated $4.7 million this weekend from 41 markets. Through Sunday, respective international and global totals for Wonder Woman 1984 stand at
$98.8 million internationally and $131.4 million globally. International totals by market for Wonder Woman 1984 through Sunday include $25.3 million in China, $14.5 million in Australia, $8.4 million in Taiwan,
$4.8 million in Japan, $4.8 million in Brazil, $4.0 million in South Korea, $3.8 million in Mexico, $3.8 million in Spain, $3.7 million in Singapore, $3.1 million in Thailand, $3.0 million in Saudi Arabia and $2.9 million in the
United Arab Emirates. Wonder Woman 1984 had previews in Russia this weekend and will fully open in Russia on Thursday, January 14. |
| Universal and DreamWorks Animation's The Croods: A New Age took in an estimated $1.81 million to hold steady in second place. Family films typically experience sizable percentage declines the weekend after
New Year's weekend, but The Croods: A New Age proved to be an exception to that trend as the film was down a slim 19 percent from last weekend. The Croods: A New Age continues to benefit from both strong word of mouth and
strong critical reviews, as well as from not facing any new competition for family audiences. The 47-day total for The Croods: A New Age stands at an estimated $36.88 million, which gives the film a healthy current total gross to
opening weekend ratio of 3.79 to 1. The Croods: A New Age is likely to hold up extremely well once again next weekend, especially with no new family films opening over the Martin Luther King holiday frame. Internationally,
The Croods: A New Age grossed an estimated $5.1 million this weekend from 17 markets. That brings the film's current international total to $91.0 million and the film's current global total to $127.8 million. |
| Fellow Universal release News of the World grossed an estimated $1.24 million to remain in third place. On the heels of last weekend's solid second weekend hold, News of the World held up very nicely
this weekend by declining just 27 percent. The estimated 17-day take for News of the World stands at $7.10 million, which gives the film a current total gross to opening weekend ratio of 3.16 to 1. News of the World will
look to continue to hold up well going forward thanks in part to its strong critical reviews, good word of mouth and awards season buzz. |
| Sony's Monster Hunter took in an estimated $1.10 million to continue to claim fourth place. Monster Hunter was down a slim 13 percent from last weekend, as the film held up very well for a second
consecutive weekend. Thanks in part to the film's strong holding power the past two weeks, Monster Hunter has made up somewhat for its slower than expected start and has grossed an estimated $7.81 million through 24 days. That
gives Monster Hunter a current total gross to opening weekend ratio of 3.55 to 1. |
| Lionsgate's Fatale and Focus' Promising Young Woman remained close to one another this weekend with respective fifth place and sixth place estimated grosses of $0.670 million and $0.560 million. Both
films continued to hold up well this weekend, as Fatale was down a very slim 4 percent from last weekend and Promising Young Woman was down a slim 19 percent. To date, Fatale has grossed an estimated $4.01 million
through 24 days and Promising Young Woman has grossed an estimated $2.71 million through 17 days. Respective current total gross to opening weekend ratios stand at 4.37 to 1 for Fatale and at 3.76 to 1 for
Promising Young Woman. |
| Roadside's Pinocchio and 101 Studios' The War with Grandpa claimed seventh and eighth place with respective estimated weekend grosses of $0.209 million and $0.147 million. Pinocchio decreased
just 29 percent from last weekend, while The War with Grandpa increased a terrific 17 percent (thanks in part to playing in 80 more locations this weekend than last weekend). To date, Pinocchio has grossed an estimated
$1.11 million through 17 days and The War with Grandpa has grossed an estimated $19.00 million through 94 days. Like The Croods: A New Age, both Pinocchio and The War with Grandpa could also hold up very well next
weekend given their appeal with family audiences. |
