Poetry by Daniel Garris - Poem 100 |

As I begin to turn the corner
Of the first third of my life
Within the corners of tired eyes
The first image of my demise
My being scattered outward
Into a distant galaxy of its own
As I question where I'm going
Paths are exponentially eroding
Staring at the clouds as a child
I saw my dreams float in the sky
Now a cloud is only but a cloud
My dreams nowhere to be found
Yet there is no feeling of despair
Deep within these aching bones
When the worst Earthly scream
Frightens less than any dream
Another deadline in the horizon
Trailed only by other deadlines
Farewell, oh child of pretending
Welcome deadline neverending
Pondering all there is to think
Sitting near a fire of dying ashes
Drinking chai tea in gentle sips
Rereading words of these lips
