Poetry by Daniel Garris - Poem 98 |

When movies still sang in the rain
And sometimes on a plain in Spain
Dames as dangerous as the guys
In affairs with strangers on a train
Cinema ever had something to say
Even when the films were cliche
From stories under western skies
To anti-heroes with bullets to spray
Yes, it was very much still machine
But the product was never so routine
Through the gears a little tramp flies
Poetically moving across the screen
I think I saw Dorothy start to cry
Under the rainbow in a fading sky
To look at the world through her eyes
Gone with the wind a gentle goodbye
Ride on into the sunset John Wayne
Please say howdy for me to Shane
I'll sit and wait for cinematic reprise
When movies still sang in the rain
