Poetry by Daniel Garris - Poem 94

Tony Clifton sang Fly Me to the Moon
Hoping to reach out to his old dear friend
The crowd booed him right out of the room
Before his serenade could reach an end

In the sad moonlit streets he kept his tune
Too special for this world to comprehend
Tired of nights of smoke and cheap perfume
To heights unknown he did slowly ascend

Up and away from planet Earth he flew
Now towards la luna he did descend
The moment rapidly approaching soon
To meet up with Andy Kaufman again

Andy welcomed Tony with a hello
The simple word made Mister Clifton crack
Said, to him everything Kaufman did owe
And that on his own he was just a hack

Not content with a half moon of the whole
Back to Earth Tony Clifton headed back
As he returned to the world down below
Andy waved bye and said thanks for the chat

An alter-ego with such an ego
Gladly takes another drink from his flask
Forever always must go on the show
Always forever Tony Clifton does attack
