Poetry by Daniel Garris - Poem 90

Excess gathers such in time forgotten
What happy grins in the breaking of bread
In drinks, ecstasy for the lonely head
With years jubilation arrives often

The ways in which worldly pains we soften
When life could be so better spent instead
Such slothful moments drifting away in bed
This frail inner core has become rotten

Yet, truly this bleeding heart still believes
Such a state of sorrow it can overcome
If from the path temptation can not sway
Focused not of what it earns, but achieves
Goodbye oh joyful days of coke and rum
Time to waste the years of excess away
