Poetry by Daniel Garris - Poem 84

Hidden this character remains
You can glance at him looking
But you shall never see his gaze

In fright he turns his head away
Striving to remain expressionless
He conceals all emotions of face

Every time he is questioned why
A long winded answer he will give
Never truly showing what's inside

Whatever be his latest given lie
It won't obscure the source of pain
His excuse for continuing to hide

Forever starving for more attention
Finds himself in constant struggle
With his fear of slightest rejection

Trapped in the midst of this tension
He looks without ever glancing back
Terrified of showcasing his reflection

Hidden this character remains
You can glance at him looking
But you shall never see his gaze
