Poetry by Daniel Garris - Poem 77 |

Thumbing through the pages of a childhood journal
Brings out the widest imaginable smile on my face
At the same time deep within those early drawings
I question myself how much have I really changed
Inside I laugh the softest, most calming chuckle
Amused and touched by what we choose to save
And by the notion of something so insignificant
Long forgotten, nonetheless still helping lead the way
With my fingers I slowly retrace the many letters
That these fingers once struggled to put on the page
Now so many years and so many miles later
I find myself struggling to find the right words to say
In the many accomplishments and many failures
That gather upon these shoulders every passing day
The subtle impression of lost childhood whispers
And the crumbling pages of their origin forever remain
Thumbing through the pages of a childhood journal
Brings out the widest imaginable smile on my face
At the same time deep within those early drawings
I question myself how much have I really changed
