Disney’s Captain Marvel took in $5.196 million on Monday to lead the daily box office for an eleventh consecutive day. Captain Marvel declined 73.4 percent from Sunday and a sizable, but
understandable, 52.7 percent from last Monday. The eleven-day total for Captain Marvel stands at an exceptional $270.08 million. That places the film 6.7 percent ahead of the $253.12 million eleven-day haul of 2017’s
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (which declined 77.5 percent on its second Monday to gross $4.70 million). |
Yesterday saw Captain Marvel zoom past the $500 million international mark after grossing an estimated $13.2 million for the day internationally. To date, Captain Marvel has grossed $509.1 million
internationally and a massive $779.2 million globally. On Monday, Captain Marvel also passed the $773.3 million total global gross of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy to already become the tenth highest grossing film ever
globally within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Current international totals by market for Captain Marvel include $133.8 million in China, $36.9 million in South Korea, $32.1 million in the United Kingdom, $25.3 million in
Brazil, $25.2 million in Mexico, $18.9 million in Australia, $16.8 million in Indonesia, $16.4 million in Russia, $15.3 million in France, $14.5 million in Germany and $12.3 million in India. |
Lionsgate and CBS Films’ Five Feet Apart placed in second with $991,402. That represented a decline of just 66.0 percent from Sunday’s performance. With the aid of strong word of mouth, Five Feet Apart
is likely to hold up well going forward, especially on weekdays. The four-day start for Five Feet Apart stands at a stronger than expected $14.18 million. That places the film 12.5 percent ahead of the $12.60 million four-day
take of 2017’s Everything, Everything. |
Paramount’s Wonder Park claimed third place for the day with $972,713. Wonder Park decreased 76.5 percent from Sunday. Wonder Park is outpacing expectations with a four-day start of
$16.83 million, but in the bigger picture the film is still performing modestly with its sizable price-tag in mind. Wonder Park is running 44.7 percent ahead of the $11.63 million four-day launch of last year’s Sherlock Gnomes. |
Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World took fourth with $778,110. That was down 70.8 percent from Sunday and down a respectable 44.9 percent from last Monday. Through
25 days of release, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World has grossed a very healthy $136.35 million. The film is running a slim 3.7 percent behind the $141.66 million 25-day haul of 2014’s How to Train Your Dragon 2. |
Lionsgate’s Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral rounded out Monday’s top five with $585,906. A Madea Family Funeral declined 72.0 percent from Sunday and a respectable 44.7 percent from last
Monday. A Madea Family Funeral has grossed a stronger than expected $59.41 million in 18 days and is set to surpass the $60 million domestic mark today. |
