Daily Box Office Report
Wednesday, December 12, 2018

By Daniel Garris

Universal and Illumination’s Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch grossed $970,245 on Wednesday to lead the daily box office for a third consecutive day. The Grinch continues to display strong holiday season holding power, as the film declined 36.7 percent from Tuesday and a slim 8.2 percent from last Wednesday. The 34-day haul for The Grinch stands at a stronger than expected $226.722 million. That places the film 18.1 percent ahead of the $192.037 million 34-day take of 2012’s Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax. BoxOfficeReport expects The Grinch to hold up very well again this weekend with a predicted sixth weekend gross of $11.5 million.

Fox’s Once Upon a Deadpool launched in a close second place with $910,346 on Wednesday. Yesterday’s performance for the PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 also included grosses from Tuesday night shows that began at 7PM. Grosses for Once Upon a Deadpool are officially being counted towards the lifetime domestic gross of Deadpool 2. That places the current lifetime domestic gross for Deadpool 2 at $319.402 million. Yesterday, BoxOfficeReport predicted respective three-day and five-day grosses of $4.5 million and $6.5 million for Once Upon a Deadpool, but it looks likely that the film will come in a bit lower than that with Wednesday’s performance in mind.

Disney’s Ralph Breaks the Internet was down one spot from Tuesday to land in third on Wednesday with $815,369. Ralph Breaks the Internet was down 45.7 percent from Tuesday and down a very solid 33.1 percent from last Wednesday. Ralph Breaks the Internet has grossed a strong $144.150 million in 22 days, which places the film 3.4 percent ahead of the $139.351 million 22-day gross of 2012’s Wreck-It Ralph. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a fourth weekend gross of $9.5 million for Ralph Breaks the Internet.

MGM’s Creed II was also down one spot from Tuesday to take fourth place on Wednesday with $731,845. Creed II declined 38.2 percent from Tuesday and a solid 37.8 percent from last Wednesday. Creed II has grossed an impressive $98.805 million in 22 days and is set to surpass the $100 million domestic mark on Friday. The film is running 20.3 percent ahead of the $82.100 million 22-day take of 2015’s Creed. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Creed II will gross $5.2 million in its fourth weekend.

Fox’s Bohemian Rhapsody and Warner’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald claimed fifth and sixth place for the day with respective daily grosses of $620,411 and $593,524. Respective total grosses stand at a stronger than expected $175.722 million for Bohemian Rhapsody through 41 days and at a softer than expected $147.465 million for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in 27 days. BoxOfficeReport is predicting weekend takes of $4.0 million for Bohemian Rhapsody and $3.7 million for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
