Universal’s Halloween led the daily box office for a fourth consecutive day on Monday after grossing $4.644 million for the day. That represented a 71.1 percent decline from Sunday’s performance. In
comparison, last month The Nun declined 70.5 percent on its first Monday to gross $3.525 million. Yesterday Halloween passed the $80 million domestic mark. The film’s four-day start of $80.866 million is an
impressive 41.0 percent ahead of the $57.332 million four-day haul of The Nun. Halloween is performing especially well with its low production cost in mind and is already the highest grossing film of the Halloween
franchise domestically without taking into account ticket price inflation. |
Warner’s A Star is Born placed in second with $1.844 million. A Star is Born continues to hold up well (especially on weekdays), as the film declined 65.7 percent from Sunday and a solid
37.1 percent from last Monday. A Star is Born has grossed a very strong $127.971 million after 18 days of wide release. That already gives the film a current total gross to opening weekend ratio of 2.98 to 1. |
Sony’s Venom claimed third with $1.288 million. That represented a 74.5 percent decline from Sunday and a sharp 54.6 percent decrease from last Monday. The 18-day total for Venom stands at a
stronger than expected $172.35 million. With the debut of Halloween now behind it and the potential for a bit of a boost as the Halloween holiday approaches; Venom could stabilize as the week continues. |
Universal and DreamWorks’ First Man followed in fourth place with $672,280. First Man was down 69.1 percent from Sunday and down a troubling 48.8 percent from last Monday. The eleven-day total
for First Man stands at an underwhelming $30.43 million, due in part to the film not going over as well with audiences as it has with critics, on the heels of an already modest debut. |
Fox’s The Hate U Give rounded out Monday’s top five with $507,101. The Hate U Give was down a sharp 74.7 percent from Sunday’s performance
(which had received an added boost from The Hate U Give being a daily MoviePass option on Sunday). After four days of wide release (and an additional two weeks of platform release) The Hate U Give has grossed a
promising $11.251 million. |
