Warner’s A Star is Born moved into first place on Monday with a daily take of $2.933 million. Monday represented the second time A Star is Born has topped the daily box office
(the first being this past Thursday). A Star is Born declined 63.7 percent from Sunday and 56.5 percent from last Monday’s performance (which was inflated by both the Columbus Day holiday and the film being a daily MoviePass option that day).
A Star is Born has grossed a very strong $97.539 million after eleven days of wide release and is set to surpass the $100 million domestic mark today. The film is running an impressive 20.4 percent ahead of the
$81.009 million eleven-day take of fellow Warner Bros. release Ocean’s 8 earlier this year. |
Sony’s Venom placed in a close second with $2.836 million. Venom trailed A Star is Born by just $97,563 for the day. Venom was down 71.5 percent from Sunday and down a very sharp
70.6 percent from last Monday’s record-breaking Columbus Day performance. The eleven-day total for Venom stands at a stronger than expected $144.944 million. That places the film 6.5 percent ahead of the $136.650 million
eleven-day haul of Ant-Man and the Wasp earlier this year. |
Universal and DreamWorks’ First Man claimed third place with $1.313 million. First Man decreased 66.0 percent from Sunday’s performance. First Man has grossed $17.319 million in four
days, which is towards the lower end of expectations. The film is running a slim 3.5 percent ahead of the $16.736 million four-day launch of 2015’s Bridge of Spies, but whether or not First Man can duplicate the
holding power of Bridge of Spies remains to be seen. |
Fox’s Bad Times at the El Royale took fourth with $812,725. The film declined 51.2 percent from Sunday, which represented the day’s best daily percentage hold among wide releases. It should be noted
that Bad Times at the El Royale received an added boost on Monday from being a daily MoviePass option. In the bigger picture, the four-day total for Bad Times at the Royale stands a softer than expected $7.945 million. |
Sony’s Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween rounded out Monday’s top five with $790,307. Goosebumps 2 was down 81.6 percent from Sunday, which is a sign of how heavily the film is skewing towards
family audiences. The four-day total for Goosebumps 2 stands at $16.593 million. That is in line with expectations and places the film 33.1 percent behind the $24.793 million four-day start of 2015’s Goosebumps. |
