Morning Update: |
Warner’s Crazy Rich Asians led the daily box office for a 14th consecutive day on Tuesday after taking in an estimated $4.305 million for the day. Crazy Rich Asians continues to display tremendous
holding power as the film was up 61.5 percent over Monday and down a slim 22.1 percent from last Tuesday. Crazy Rich Asians received an added boost yesterday from being a daily MoviePass choice, after not being a daily choice
on Monday (the film was also a daily MoviePass choice last Tuesday). Crazy Rich Asians passed the $80 million domestic mark yesterday and has grossed an exceptional $83.587 million in 14 days. That places the film 8.5 percent
ahead of the $77.020 million 14-day total of 2011’s The Help. Crazy Rich Asians already has a current total gross to opening weekend ratio of 3.15 to 1. |
Fellow Warner Bros. release The Meg held steady in second place with an estimated $1.65 million. The Meg increased 35.9 percent over Monday and decreased a respectable 43.9 percent from last
Tuesday. The 19-day total for The Meg stands at a far stronger than expected $107.948 million. That places the film 36.2 percent ahead of the $79.272 million 19-day haul of fellow Warner Bros. release Rampage earlier
this year. |
Paramount’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout was up one spot from Monday to move into third place on Tuesday with an estimated $1.16 million. That represented a strong 60.0 percent increase over Monday and
a decrease of just 32.4 percent from last Tuesday. Yesterday saw Mission: Impossible – Fallout surpass the $195.042 million final domestic gross of 2015’s Mission: Impossible – Rouge Nation. The 33-day total for
Mission: Impossible – Fallout stands at $195.873 million. |
Additional analysis and full daily grosses for Tuesday’s box office will appear later today. |
Evening Update: |
STXfilms’ The Happytime Murders was down one spot from Tuesday to land in fourth with $1.001 million. The Happytime Murders was up just 16.9 percent over Monday, which represented one of the day’s
smaller daily percentage increases among wide releases. In addition to being negatively affected by poor critical reviews and lackluster word of mouth, The Happytime Murders took an additional hit on Tuesday from not being a
daily MoviePass choice, after being a choice on Monday. The five-day start for The Happytime Murders stands at an underwhelming $11.389 million. |
Disney’s Christopher Robin grossed $948,743 to remain in fifth place for the day. Christopher Robin increased 54.8 percent over Monday and decreased a solid 40.5 percent from last Tuesday. Thanks
in part to continued strong holding power; Disney’s Christopher Robin has grossed $79.112 million through 26 days. |
