Daily Box Office Report
Monday, August 27, 2018

By Daniel Garris

Warner’s Crazy Rich Asians grossed $2.665 million on Monday to lead the daily box office for a thirteenth consecutive day. Crazy Rich Asians continues to display tremendous holding power, as the film was down 64.2 percent from Sunday and down only 26.6 percent from last Monday. With an extremely impressive thirteen-day total of $79.281 million, Crazy Rich Asians already has a current total gross to opening weekend ratio of 2.99 to 1. Crazy Rich Asians is running 7.2 percent ahead of the $73.947 million 13-day total of 2011’s The Help.

Fellow Warner Bros. release The Meg placed in second with $1.214 million. The Meg declined 67.9 percent from Sunday and a respectable 44.4 percent from last Monday’s performance (which was inflated a bit from the film being a MoviePass choice that day). The 18-day total for The Meg stands at a far stronger than expected $106.298 million, which places the film 35.4 percent ahead of the $78.528 million 18-day take of Rampage earlier this year.

STXfilms’ The Happytime Murders followed in third place with $856,187. The Happytime Murders was down 61.6 percent from Sunday, which represented one of the day’s stronger daily percentage holds among wide releases. In the bigger picture, The Happytime Murders has grossed an underwhelming $10.389 million in its first four days and is likely to display significant front-loading going forward.

Paramount’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout took fourth with $725,066. That was down 70.5 percent from Sunday and down just 32.1 percent from last Monday. Mission: Impossible – Fallout has grossed a strong $194.713 million in 32 days and today is set to surpass the $195.042 million final domestic gross of 2015’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.

Disney’s Christopher Robin rounded out Monday’s top five with $612,935. Christopher Robin decreased 65.1 percent from Monday and a solid 37.7 percent from last Tuesday. Thanks in part to continued strong holding power; Disney’s Christopher Robin has grossed a solid $78.164 million through 25 days.
