Daily Box Office Report
Wednesday, June 6, 2018

By Daniel Garris

Disney’s Solo: A Star Wars Story took in $2.544 million on Wednesday to lead the daily box office for a thirteenth consecutive day. Solo: A Star Wars Story declined 36.2 percent from Tuesday and a sizable 47.6 percent from last Wednesday. The marketplace in general looks to have taken a bit of an extra hit yesterday from Game 3 of the NBA Finals. The thirteen-day total for Solo: A Star Wars Story stands at a significantly softer than expected $158.486 million. That places the film 11.4 percent behind the $178.869 million thirteen-day take of last year’s Justice League and a disappointing 55.8 percent behind the $358.656 million thirteen-day haul of 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Solo: A Star Wars Story will gross $14.3 million in its third weekend.

Fox’s Deadpool 2 held steady in a close second place with $2.269 million. Deadpool 2 was down 33.4 percent from Tuesday and down a solid 41.3 percent from last Wednesday. Deadpool 2 has grossed a very healthy $262.829 million in 20 days. The film is running 2.2 percent ahead of the $257.252 million 20-day gross of last year’s Thor: Ragnarok and a very respectable 10.2 percent behind the $292.654 million 20-day total of 2016’s Deadpool. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a fourth weekend take of $13.5 million for Deadpool 2.

Paramount’s Book Club was up one spot from Tuesday to move into third on Wednesday with $1.282 million. Book Club continued to display very strong holding power yesterday, as the film was down 23.1 percent from Tuesday and down only 23.0 percent from last Wednesday. The 20-day total for Book Club stands at a stronger than expected $51.597 million. That already gives the film a current total gross to opening weekend ratio of 3.80 to 1. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a fourth weekend gross of $4.9 million for Book Club.

STXfilms’ Adrift was down one spot from Tuesday to claim fourth place on Wednesday with $1.124 million. That represented a 37.4 percent decline from Tuesday’s performance. The six-day start for Adrift stands at $15.753 million, which is in line with expectations. The film is running 10.2 percent ahead of the $14.128 million six-day launch of last year’s The Mountain Between Us. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Adrift will take in $5.9 million in its second weekend.

Disney’s Avengers: Infinity War rounded out Wednesday’s top five with $1.074 million. Avengers: Infinity War was down 31.0 percent from Tuesday and down just 26.7 percent from last Wednesday. Avengers: Infinity War has grossed a massive $646.799 million in 41 days, which leaves the film just $5.472 million away from surpassing 2015’s Jurassic World to move into fifth place on the all-time unadjusted domestic list. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a weekend gross of $6.9 million for Avengers: Infinity War.

In other box office news, Universal’s highly anticipated Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom began its international run on Wednesday with an estimated $20.2 million from select markets. Opening day grosses included a record-breaking $9.7 million in South Korea, $1.7 million in France, $1.0 million in Indonesia, $865,000 in Germany and $732,000 in the Philippines. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom also registered an estimated $2.9 million in preview grosses in the U.K. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will open in a number of additional international markets today and tomorrow, including Italy, Russia and Hong Kong today. The film opens domestically on June 22.
