Fox’s Deadpool 2 grossed $12.401 million on Tuesday to easily lead the daily box office for a fifth consecutive day. Deadpool 2 was up 3.3 percent over Monday, which represented a healthy
first-Tuesday hold for a film of this size, especially with Monday’s performance having been inflated by the Victoria Day holiday in Canada. The five-day start for Deadpool 2 stands at $149.916 million. That places the film
5.7 percent ahead of the $141.817 million five-day take of last year’s Thor: Ragnarok (which increased 31.2 percent on its first Tuesday to gross $10.824 million) and 8.4 percent behind the $163.753 million six-day launch of
2016’s Deadpool (which decreased 41.5 percent on its first Tuesday to take in $11.560 million). Deadpool 2 and the marketplace in general will soon face new major competition when Disney’s
Solo: A Star Wars Story enters the marketplace on Friday. |
Disney’s Avengers: Infinity War held steady in second place with $2.860 million. In the process, Avengers: Infinity War passed the $600 million domestic mark yesterday, making it the eighth film
ever to reach the $600 million domestic milestone. The 26-day total for Avengers: Infinity War stands at $601.382 million, which is 14.1 percent ahead of the $527.174 million 26-day haul of 2012’s
Marvel’s The Avengers and 5.3 percent ahead of the $570.901 million 26-day take of Black Panther earlier this year. Avengers: Infinity War was up 5.6 percent over Monday and down a sharp 52.4 percent from last
Tuesday (when the film was still playing on IMAX screens). |
Paramount’s Book Club continued to display terrific early holding power on Tuesday with a third place take of $2.802 million. On the heels of strong daily percentage holds on both Sunday and Monday,
Book Club increased a strong 47.4 percent over Monday on Tuesday. Book Club has grossed a promising $18.286 million in five days, which places the film 23.4 percent ahead of the $14.819 million five-day start of last
year’s Going in Style. Book Club is likely to have a lengthy box office run, thanks in part to strong word of mouth and to skewing heavily towards older moviegoers. |
Warner’s Life of the Party and Universal’s Breaking In continued to claim fourth and fifth place with respective daily grosses of $1.039 million and $885,110. Life of the Party was up
41.1 percent over Monday and down 45.2 percent from last Tuesday, while Breaking In was up 50.5 percent over Monday and down 47.5 percent from last Tuesday. Respective twelve-day grosses stand at $32.691 million for
Life of the Party (which is on the low end of expectations) and at $30.580 million for Breaking In (which is on the high end of expectations). |
