Wednesday, May 9, 2018

By Daniel Garris

Disney’s Avengers: Infinity War took in $7.052 million on Wednesday to lead the daily box office for a thirteenth straight day. Avengers: Infinity War was down 33.9 percent from Tuesday and down a very sharp 58.4 percent from last Wednesday. In comparison, Black Panther declined 32.6 percent on its second Wednesday to gross $6.877 million, while 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers decreased 25.2 percent on its second Wednesday to register $6.340 million.

The thirteen-day domestic total for Avengers: Infinity War stands at $479.116 million. Yesterday saw Avengers: Infinity War surpass the $474.545 million lifetime domestic gross of 1999’s Star Wars: The Phantom Menace to move into twelfth place on the all-time unadjusted domestic list. Avengers: Infinity War is running 21.0 percent ahead of the $395.813 million thirteen-day haul of Marvel’s The Avengers, 11.7 percent ahead of the $428.792 million thirteen-day take of Black Panther and 23.8 percent behind the $629.035 million thirteen-day gross of 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Avengers: Infinity War will gross $60.0 million in its third weekend.

Internationally, Avengers: Infinity War continued to impress on Wednesday with an estimated $17.1 million. That brings the film’s international total to $771.9 million and current global haul to a massive $1.251 billion. Yesterday, Avengers: Infinity War passed last year’s The Fate of the Furious to move into thirteenth place all-time globally. Avengers: Infinity War will continue to soar internationally this weekend as it opens in China on Friday.

Lionsgate, Pantelion and MGM’s Overboard held steady in second place with $990,943. Overboard declined 37.5 percent from Tuesday’s performance. The six-day total for Overboard stands at $18.439 million, which is on the high end of expectations and places the film 24.1 percent ahead of the $14.857 million six-day start of last year’s How to Be a Latin Lover. This weekend, Overboard will be playing in 2,006 locations. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a second weekend gross of $9.7 million for Overboard.

Paramount’s A Quiet Place remained in third place for the day with $719,833. A Quiet Place continued to hold up very nicely, as the film was down 25.0 percent from Tuesday and down a slim 13.8 percent from last Wednesday. The 34-day breakout performance for A Quiet Place stands at a much stronger than expected $162.433 million. BoxOfficeReport expects A Quiet Place to hold up very well this weekend with a sixth weekend take of $6.5 million.

STXfilms’ I Feel Pretty continued to claim fourth with $530,279. I Feel Pretty declined 28.0 percent from Tuesday and just 28.9 percent from last Wednesday.
