Daily Box Office Report
Monday, May 7, 2018

By Daniel Garris

Disneyís Avengers: Infinity War took in $8.284 million on Monday. That represented a 77.4 percent decline from Sunday and a very sharp, but understandable 66.5 percent decline from last Monday. In comparison, Black Panther decreased a similar 77.1 percent on its second Monday earlier this year to take in $8.098 million, while 2012ís Marvelís The Avengers was down 74.4 percent on its second Monday to gross $7.92 million.

Avengers: Infinity War has grossed $461.391 million in eleven days of release. Yesterday saw Avengers: Infinity War pass 2015ís Avengers: Age of Utron and 1977ís Star Wars: A New Hope to move into thirteenth place on the all-time unadjusted domestic list. Avengers: Infinity War is running 21.1 percent ahead of the $380.995 million eleven-day take of Marvelís The Avengers, 12.1 percent ahead of the $411.712 million eleven-day gross of Black Panther and 19.3 percent behind the $571.521 million even-day haul of 2015ís Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Avengers: Infinity War continued to impress internationally on Monday with an estimated daily gross of $22.9 million. That brings the filmís international total to $737.5 million and current global haul to a massive $1.199 billion. The impressive international performance of Avengers: Infinity War is set to continue with the film opening in China on Friday. Current international totals by market for Avengers: Infinity War include $74.6 million in South Korea, $71.1 million in the U.K., $49.3 million in Mexico, $45.9 million in Brazil, $36.9 million in India, $35.5 million in Australia, $32.0 million in France, $29.0 million in Germany, $24.0 million in Japan, $21.6 million in Indonesia, $20.2 million in the Philippines, $19.6 million in Russia, $19.2 million in Italy and $18.3 million in Spain.

Lionsgate, Pantelion and MGMís Overboard placed in second with $1.153 million. Overboard was down 75.8 percent from Sundayís performance. The four-day start for Overboard stands at $15.864 million, which is on the very high end of expectations. Overboard is running 21.1 percent ahead of the $13.101 million four-day launch of last yearís How to Be a Latin Lover (which declined 79.1 percent on its first Monday to gross $848,782). Overboard should receive boosts in the coming days from both El Dia de la Madre on Thursday and Motherís Day on Sunday.

Paramountís A Quiet Place took third place with $695,389. A Quiet Place held up very nicely yesterday, as the film was down 68.0 percent from Sunday and down only 22.2 percent from last Monday. The 32-day breakout performance for A Quiet Place stands at a much stronger than expected $160.753 million.

STXfilmsí I Feel Pretty claimed fourth with $462,629. I Feel Pretty declined 67.9 percent from Sunday and a very solid 35.5 percent from last Monday. The 18-day total for I Feel Pretty stands at $38.411 million, which is in line with expectations and 7.1 percent behind the $41.365 million 18-day take of last yearís Snatched.

Warner Bros. and New Lineís Rampage rounded out the dayís top five with $342,301. Rampage decreased 76.8 percent from Sunday and just 31.1 percent from last Monday. The 25-day total for Rampage stands at a respectable $85.144 million.

Focusí Tully landed in sixth place with $325,870. Tully was down 64.8 percent from Sunday and is likely to display strong holding power through Motherís Day on Sunday. Tully has grossed $3.608 million in four days, which is in line with the filmís very modest expectations.
