Disney’s Black Panther led the daily box office on Monday with $4.036 million. Black Panther has now led the daily box office for 24 of the past 25 days. Black Panther continues to display
strong holding power, as the film was down 67.6 percent from Sunday and down only 14.5 percent from last Monday. It should also be noted that daily grosses in general received a boost on Monday from some schools being out for spring
break. The 25-day total for Black Panther stands at $565.733 million. That currently ranks Black Panther in seventh place on the all-time unadjusted domestic list and places the film an exceptional 8.0 percent ahead of
the $523.907 million 25-day haul of 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers. |
Internationally, Black Panther grossed an estimated $9.9 million on Monday, which included $6.1 million for the day from China (bringing the film’s four-day start in China to $72.2 million). To date,
Black Panther has grossed $528.0 million internationally and a massive $1.094 billion globally. |
Fellow Disney release A Wrinkle in Time placed in second with $2.644 million. A Wrinkle in Time declined 71.6 percent from Sunday’s performance, which represented the day’s sharpest daily
percentage decline among wide releases. That is a bit concerning going forward, especially since family films held up well in general on Monday. The four-day start for A Wrinkle in Time stands at $35.767 million, which is on
the low end of expectations. A Wrinkle in Time is currently running 6.7 percent ahead of the $33.508 million four-day haul of 2016’s Alice Through the Looking Glass and 16.2 percent behind the $42.679 million four-day
launch of 2015’s Tomorrowland (both of which had the added advantage of opening over Memorial Day weekend). |
It was an extremely close race for spots three through six on Monday, as third place and sixth place were separated by a slim $28,903 for the day. Fox’s Red Sparrow led the pack of four films to take
third place with $871,167. Red Sparrow decreased 62.7 percent from Sunday and 39.7 percent from last Monday (which represented one of the day’s sharper percentage declines from last Monday among wide releases). Red Sparrow
has grossed $32.342 million in eleven days. That is on the low end of expectations and places the film 17.7 percent behind the $39.306 million eleven-day take of 2015’s Joy. |
Aviron Pictures’ The Strangers: Prey at Night followed very closely behind in fourth place with $868,241. The Strangers: Prey at Night was down 64.2 percent from Sunday’s take. The four-day start
for The Strangers: Prey at Night stands at a solid $11.271 million. The film is running a bit ahead of its relatively modest expectations and just ahead of the $11.110 million four-day launch of last year’s Kidnap
(which was also released by Aviron Pictures). |
Sony’s Peter Rabbit and Warner’s Game Night claimed fifth and sixth place for the day with respective daily grosses of $848,482 and $842,264. Both films continue to display strong holding power, as
Peter Rabbit was down 60.7 percent from Sunday and up a terrific 50.8 percent over last Monday, while Game Night decreased 60.0 percent from Sunday and increased 0.5 percent over last Monday. Respective current total
grosses stand at $94.282 million for Peter Rabbit in 32 days and at $45.846 million for Game Night in 18 days. |
