Daily Box Office Report
Monday, March 5, 2018

By Daniel Garris

Disney’s Black Panther took in $4.721 M on Monday to lead the daily box office for an 18th consecutive day. Black Panther was down 76.4 percent from Sunday and down a solid 41.7 percent from last Monday. Yesterday saw Black Panther pass by last year’s Beauty and the Beast to move into ninth place on the all-time unadjusted domestic list. The 18-day total for Black Panther stands at a massive $506.428 M. That places the film an impressive 9.3 percent ahead of the $463.353 M 18-day gross of 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers.

Yesterday also saw Black Panther pass the $400 M international mark and the $900 M global mark after grossing an estimated $5.2 M internationally for the day. To date, Black Panther has grossed $403.4 M internationally and $909.8 M globally.

Fox’s Red Sparrow placed in second with $1.444 M. That represented a 64.7 percent decline from Sunday’s performance. Red Sparrow has grossed $18.298 M in its first four days, which is on the low end of expectations. The film is running 6.8 percent behind the $19.629 M four-day launch of 2015’s Joy, which had the added advantage of stronger holiday season midweek business.

MGM’s Death Wish followed in third place with $1.037 M. Death Wish was down 70.0 percent from Sunday’s take. The four-day start for Death Wish stands at $14.048 M, which is a bit below expectations. Death Wish continues to perform nearly on par with last year’s The Foreigner, which grossed $1.064 M on its first Monday and $14.177 M in its first four days of release.

Warner and New Line’s Game Night claimed fourth with $838 K. Game Night continues to display healthy early holding power, as the film declined 68.1 percent from Sunday and 35.7 percent from last Monday. Game Night has grossed $34.078 M in eleven days, which is in line with expectations and places the film 3.3 percent ahead of the $32.983 M eleven-day take of 2016’s Office Christmas Party.

Sony’s Peter Rabbit and Paramount’s Annihilation placed in fifth and sixth on Monday with respective daily grosses of $563 K and $552 K. The two films were separated by just $11,033 for the day. Respective total grosses stand at a stronger than expected $84.628 M for Peter Rabbit in 25 days and at $21.146 M for Annihilation in eleven days, which is on par with expectations.
