Daily Box Office Report
Thursday, February 22, 2018

By Daniel Garris

Disney’s Black Panther rounded out its historic first week with $14.253 M on Thursday. That was a slim 3.0 percent decline from Wednesday’s performance. Thursday’s gross represented the largest Thursday gross ever for a film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it outpaced the $12.392 M first Thursday gross of 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers by a healthy 15.0 percent. Thursday’s daily hold is another strong sign for Black Panther as it heads into its second weekend.

The seven-day start for Black Panther stands at a massive $291.954 M. That represents the fourth largest seven-day launch of all-time; behind only 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($390.856 M), last year’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($296.602 M) and 2015’s Jurassic World ($296.212 M). Black Panther is running 8.1 percent ahead of the $270.019 M seven-day take of Marvel’s The Avengers and an exceptional 61.8 percent ahead of the $180.395 M seven-day haul of Deadpool back in February of 2016.

Yesterday also saw Black Panther pass the $500 M global mark. To date, the film has grossed $520.1 M globally. Black Panther grossed an estimated $13.3 M internationally on Thursday, which brings the film’s international total to $228.1 M. International totals through Thursday for Black Panther include $31.9 M in the U.K., $30.4 M in South Korea, $13.2 M in Brazil, $12.4 M in Mexico, $12.2 M in Australia, $11.1 M in France, $8.8 M in Taiwan, $8.0 M in Indonesia and $7.6 M in Germany.
