Universal’s Fifty Shades Freed easily led the Valentine’s Day box office on Wednesday with $10.768 M. That represented an impressive 173.2 percent increase over Tuesday’s performance. In comparison, last year’s Fifty Shades Darker increased 181.8 percent to gross $11.002 M on Valentine’s Day (which fell on a Tuesday). Fifty Shades Freed has grossed $56.046 M in six days, which is towards the higher end of expectations and places the film a respectable 14.2 percent behind the $65.313 six-day start of Fifty Shades Darker. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a four-day second weekend gross of $17.5 M for Fifty Shades Freed.

Sony’s Peter Rabbit held steady in second place with $1.886 M. Peter Rabbit was up 23.3 percent over Tuesday, as the film received a bit of a Valentine’s Day boost yesterday. The six-day total for Peter Rabbit stands at a stronger than expected $29.896 M. That places Peter Rabbit 10.4 percent ahead of the $27.068 M six-day haul of 2015’s Paddington. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Peter Rabbit will take second place over the holiday weekend with a four-day second weekend gross of $22.5 M.

Warner’s The 15:17 to Paris grossed $1.702 M to remain in third. The 15:17 to Paris increased a slim 12.2 percent over Tuesday, which represented the day’s smallest daily percentage increase among wide releases. The 15:17 to Paris has grossed $16.853 M in six days, which is in line with expectations and places the film 16.1 percent behind the recent $20.088 M six-day launch of fellow Warner Bros. release 12 Strong. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a four-day second weekend take of $7.8 M for The 15:17 to Paris.

Sony’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle followed closely behind in fourth place with $1.666 M. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle saw a clear Valentine’s Day bump, as the film was up 101.9 percent over Tuesday and up 120.6 percent over last Wednesday. The 57-day break-out total for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle stands at $369.077 M. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will place in fourth this weekend with a four-day haul of $9.5 M.

Fox’s The Greatest Showman rounded out the day’s unchanged top five with $1.079 M. The Greatest Showman increased 56.6 percent over Tuesday and 69.3 percent over last Wednesday. With a significantly stronger than expected 57-day total of $148.893 M, The Greatest Showman is just $1.107 M away from reaching the $150 M domestic mark. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a four-day holiday weekend gross of $6.3 M for The Greatest Showman.

Lionsgate and CBS Film’s Winchester and Fox’s Maze Runner: The Death Cure placed in sixth and seventh on Valentine’s Day with respective daily grosses of $1.021 M and $932 K. Both films experienced clear Valentine’s Day bumps, as Winchester was up 93.4 percent over Tuesday and Maze Runner: The Death Cure was up 72.8 percent. Respective total grosses stand at $51.176 M for Maze Runner: The Death Cure in 20 days and at $19.313 M for Winchester in thirteen days.
