Daily Box Office Report
Tuesday, February 13, 2018

By Daniel Garris

Universal’s Fifty Shades Freed took in $3.942 M on Tuesday to top the daily box office for the fourth time in the past five days. Fifty Shades Freed increased 42.0 percent over Monday, which represented the second consecutive strong daily percentage hold for the film. The five-day start for Fifty Shades Freed stands at $45.278 M. That is towards the higher end of expectations and places the film 26.4 percent behind the $61.513 M five-day haul of last year’s Fifty Shades Darker (which had the advantage of Valentine’s Day falling on its first Tuesday). With the Valentine’s Day performances of the previous two Fifty Shades films in mind, Fifty Shades Freed should have a strong Valentine’s Day performance today.

Sony’s Peter Rabbit held steady in second place with $1.529 M. That represented a slim 4.0 percent increase over Monday, though it should be noted that family films in general yesterday experienced soft daily percentage holds in comparison to Monday. Peter Rabbit has grossed a stronger than expected $28.010 M in five days. Peter Rabbit is running ahead of pre-release expectations and 5.7 percent ahead of the $26.500 M five-day launch of 2015’s Paddington.

Warner’s The 15:17 to Paris followed closely behind in third with $1.518 M. The 15:17 to Paris was up a healthy 40.8 percent over Monday and trailed Peter Rabbit by a very slim $10,952 for the day. The 15:17 to Paris has grossed $15.150 M in five days, which is right in line with expectations. The Clint Eastwood directed film is running 19.9 percent behind the recent $18.906 M five-day start of fellow Warner Bros. release 12 Strong.

Sony’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle continued to claim fourth with $825 K. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle increased a modest 13.0 percent over Monday, but was down only 18.6 percent from last Tuesday. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has grossed $367.411 M in 56 days, which gives the film an exceptional current total gross to opening weekend ratio of 10.16 to 1.

Fox’s The Greatest Showman rounded out the day’s unchanged top five with $689 K. The Greatest Showman was up 26.4 percent over Monday and down just 22.1 percent from last Tuesday. With a significantly stronger than expected 56-day total of $147.814 M, The Greatest Showman is $2.186 M away from reaching the $150 M domestic mark.
