Fox’ Maze Runner: The Death Cure led the daily box office for a fifth consecutive day on Tuesday with a daily take of $1.905 M. That represented a healthy 39.8 percent increase over Monday’s performance. In comparison, 2015’s Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials increased 49.4 percent on its first Tuesday to gross $2.504 M. Maze Runner: The Death Cure has grossed $27.435 M in its first five days. That is slightly ahead of expectations, but still places the film 20.5 percent behind the $34.497 M five-day start of Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials.

Sony’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was up one spot from Monday to move into second place on Tuesday with $1.239 M. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was up 36.6 percent over Monday and down just 29.8 percent from last Tuesday. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has grossed $339.949 M through 42 days of release. That currently ranks in the film in fifth place among all 2017 releases domestically and gives the film an exceptional total gross to opening weekend ratio of 9.40 to 1.

Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures’ Hostiles was down one spot from Tuesday to place in a very close third with $1.234 M. Hostiles trailed Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle by a very slim $5,278 for the day. Tuesday’s performance for Hostiles was 35.2 percent stronger than Monday. Hostiles has grossed $14.105 M after five days of wide release and an additional five weeks of platform release. That places the film 1.8 percent behind the $14.362 M five-day start of last year’s 47 Meters Down, which was also released by Entertainment Studios.

Fox releases The Greatest Showman and The Post claimed fourth and fifth place on Tuesday with respective daily grosses of $1.023 M and $1.017 M. The two films were separated by only $5,643 for the day. The Greatest Showman increased 44.8 percent over Monday and decreased 18.8 percent from last Tuesday, while The Post increased 43.4 percent over Monday and decreased 35.6 percent from last Tuesday. Respective total grosses stand at a strong $128.255 M for The Greatest Showman and at a healthy $60.520 M for The Post.

Warner’s 12 Strong and STXfilms’ Den of Thieves remained close to one another on Tuesday with respective sixth place and seventh place takes of $904 K and $879 K. The two films were separated by $24,846 for the day. Through twelve days, 12 Strong is running towards the higher end of expectations with $31.354 M, while Den of Thieves has grossed a stronger than expected $30.354 M.
