By Daniel Garris

Fox and DreamWorks’ The Post was up two spots from Tuesday to move into first place on Wednesday with $1.201 M. It continued to be a close four-way race for first place yesterday, as first place and fourth place were separated by just $139 K for the day. The Post held up nicely yesterday, as the film declined 23.9 percent from Tuesday and 25.8 percent from last Wednesday. The Post has grossed a healthy $48.544 M through thirteen days of wide release and an additional three weeks of platform release. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that The Post will place in fourth this weekend with $9.3 M.

Warner’s 12 Strong was down one spot from Tuesday to land in a close second on Wednesday with $1.183 M. 12 Strong trailed The Post by a very slim $18,696 for the day. 12 Strong was down 33.8 percent from Tuesday’s performance. 12 Strong passed the $20 M domestic mark yesterday and has grossed $20.088 M through six days. That places 12 Strong 10.5 percent behind the $22.439 M six-day haul of 2016’s 13 Hours. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a second weekend gross of $8.7 M for 12 Strong.

Sony’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle moved down one spot from Tuesday to claim third on Wednesday with $1.115 M. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle decreased 36.8 percent from Tuesday and 32.1 percent from last Wednesday. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle continues to significantly exceed expectations with a massive 36-day gross of $320.537 M. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a $15.3 M second place performance for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle this weekend.

STXfilms’ Den of Thieves held steady in fourth place with $1.062 M. That represented a 32.1 percent decline from Tuesday’s take. The six-day total for Den of Thieves stands at a stronger than expected $19.137 M. Den of Thieves is running 15.4 percent ahead of the $16.582 M six-day start of last year’s The Foreigner (which was also released by STXfilms). BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Den of Thieves will gross $8.0 M in its second weekend.

Fox’s The Greatest Showman rounded out Wednesday’s top five with $851 K. The Greatest Showman declined 32.4 percent from Tuesday and only 18.3 percent from last Wednesday. The Greatest Showman continues to steadily pad its status as one of 2017’s bigger surprises with a 36-day gross of $116.085 M. BoxOfficeReport is predicting The Greatest Showman will take fifth place this weekend with $9.2 M.
