Sony’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle held off Fox’s The Post in a close race for first place on Wednesday. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle took in $1.642 M for the day, which gave the film a slim $23,172 lead over The Post for the day. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle continues to display terrific holding power, as the film declined 32.1 percent from Tuesday and just 24.9 percent from last Wednesday. The 29-day total for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle stands at a stronger than expected $295.372 M, which leaves the film just $4.628 M away from reaching the $300 M domestic milestone. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will remain in first place this weekend with $18.5 M.

The Post placed in a very close second with $1.619 M. The Post declined 25.3 percent from Tuesday, which represented a healthy Wednesday hold for a film in its first week of wide release. The Post passed the $30 M mark yesterday and has grossed $31.332 M after six day of wide release and an additional three weeks of platform release. The current total for The Post is 57.3 percent ahead of the $19.913 M six-day start of 2015’s Bridge of Spies (though The Post is aided in the comparison by its platform run). BoxOfficeReport is predicting that The Post will place in this weekend with $12.3 M.

Fox’s The Greatest Showman was up one spot from Tuesday to move into third place on Wednesday with $1.042 M. The Greatest Showman declined 25.8 percent from Tuesday and only 21.3 percent from last Wednesday. The 29-day total for The Greatest Showman stands at a stronger than expected $101.377 M, which gives the film an exceptional current total gross to opening weekend ratio of 11.51 to 1. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that The Greatest Showman will continue to display very strong holding power this weekend with a fifth place take of $10.0 M.

Lionsgate’s The Commuter fell one spot from Tuesday to land in fourth on Wednesday with $933 K. The Commuter was down 34.3 percent from Tuesday’s performance. The Commuter continues to run slightly ahead of expectations with a six-day start of $18.147 M. That places the film 31.0 percent ahead of the $13.855 M six-day haul of 2015’s Run All Night. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that The Commuter will gross $6.5 M in its second weekend.

Disney’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi rounded out Wednesday’s top five with $861 K. Yesterday marked the first time that Star Wars: The Last Jedi grossed less than $1 M for a single day. Star Wars: The Last Jedi slowed 22.0 percent from Tuesday and a sharp 50.6 percent from last Wednesday. With a massive 34-day take of $596.867 M, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is now just $3.133 M away from reaching the $600 M domestic milestone. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a sixth weekend take of $5.8 M for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
