all-time (and the seventh largest ever Tuesday gross when not including Tuesday opening day grosses). |
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is running 37.6 percent ahead of the $190.261 M five-day haul of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and 19.5 percent behind the $325.438 M five-day launch of
Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Star Wars: The Last Jedi registered the second largest five-day start of all-time (behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens and just ahead of the $258.494 M start of 2015’s Jurassic World).
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is already the eighth highest grossing release of 2017 to date domestically and will surpass Despicable Me 3 today to move into seventh place. BoxOfficeReport is prediciting

International totals for Star Wars: The Last Jedi through Tuesday include $46.0 M in the U.K., $27.6 M in Germany, $21.6 M in France, $19.8 M in Australia, $18.3 M in Japan, $9.4 M in Spain,
$9.3 M in Russia, $9.0 M in Brazil and $8.1 M in Mexico. |
Fox’s Ferdinand held steady in second place on Tuesday with $1.804 M. Ferdinand increased a very strong 49.5 percent over Monday’s performance. Ferdinand is running below
expectations with a five-day start of $16.412 M. That places Ferdinand 13.5 percent ahead of the $14.454 M five-day take of 2006’s Charlotte’s Web and 22.9 percent behind the five-day gross of 2015’s
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a four-day second weekend gross of $11.0 M for Ferdinand. |
Disney’s Coco continued to follow closely behind in third place with $1.704 M. That represented a strong 45.1 percent increase over Monday and a very slim 3.1 percent decrease from last
Tuesday, as midweek business is clearly strengthening in general (especially for family films) as we approach the Christmas holiday. Coco has grossed an impressive $153.615 M in four weeks. BoxOfficeReport is
predicting a fifth weekend four-day holiday gross of $9.7 M for Coco. |
Lionsgate’s Wonder and Warner’s Justice League claimed fourth and fifth place with respective daily grosses of $1.217 M and $736 K. Wonder was up 40.6 percent over Monday and up an
impressive 5.9 percent over last Monday, while Justice League increased 41.1 percent over Monday and decreased 32.8 percent from last Tuesday. Respective 33-day totals stand at a softer than expected $220.853 M for
Justice League and at a stronger than expected $111.165 M for Wonder. |
On the platform front, Fox Searchlight’s The Shape of Water grossed $274 K from 158 locations for a daily per-location average of $1,731 and Focus’ Darkest Hour grossed $136 K from
84 locations for a similar per-location average of $1,619. Respective platform totals stand at $4.114 M for The Shape of Water in 19 days and at $2.591 M for Darkest Hour in 28 days. Both films will be expanding
into nationwide release this coming weekend. |
