Daily Box Office Report
Tuesday, December 12, 2017

By Daniel Garris

Disney’s Coco took in $1.759 M on Tuesday to lead the daily box office for a 21st straight day. Coco continued to display healthy holding power yesterday, as the film was up 58.5 percent over Monday and down just 29.4 percent from last Tuesday. The three-week total for Coco stands at an impressive $138.527 M. That places Coco 18.1 percent ahead of the $117.270 M 21-day total of 2010’s Tangled and only 6.2 percent behind the $147.644 M 21-day haul of last year’s Moana.

Yesterday also saw Coco pass the $400 M global mark. Coco took in an estimated $4.4 M internationally on Tuesday, which brings the film’s international total to $263.0 M and global haul to $401.5 M. International totals to date for Coco include $133.1 M in China, a record-breaking $56.8 M in Mexico, $11.5 M in France, $9.1 M in Spain and $8.1 M in Russia.

Lionsgate’s Wonder was up one spot from Monday to move into second place on Tuesday with $1.149 M. That represented a 59.1 percent jump over Monday and a slim 17.6 percent decrease from last Tuesday. Wonder continues to pad its status as one of the bigger surprise hits of the year with a 26-day total of $102.172 M. That already gives Wonder a current total gross to opening weekend ratio of 3.71 to 1.

Warner’s Justice League was down one spot from Monday to land in third on Tuesday with $1.094 M. Justice League increased 47.2 percent over Monday and decreased a solid 36.4 percent from last Tuesday. The 26-day total for Justice League stands at a softer than expected $213.967 M. Justice League will obviously be taking a direct hit from the release of Disney’s highly anticipated Star Wars: The Last Jedi on Friday.

Disney’s Thor: Ragnarok was up one spot from Monday to claim fourth place on Tuesday with $741 K. Thor: Ragnarok was up 43.5 percent over Monday and down only 27.6 percent from last Tuesday. The 40-day total for Thor: Ragnarok stands at a mighty $302.393 M, which currently ranks the film as the sixth highest grossing 2017 release to date domestically.

A24 and New Line’s The Disaster Artist fell one spot from Monday to round out Tuesday’s top five with $731 K. For the day, The Disaster Artist registered a healthy daily per-location average of $870 from 840 locations.
