Daily Box Office Report
Monday, November 27, 2017

By Daniel Garris

Disney’s Coco took in $2.322 M on Monday to lead the daily box office for a sixth consecutive day. Coco was down a sharp 82.7 percent from Sunday, which points to how heavily the film is skewing towards family audiences. In comparison, last year’s Moana also fell 82.7 percent on its first Monday to take in a very similar $2.332 M, while 2015’s The Good Dinosaur slowed 84.8 percent to gross $1.363 M. Coco has grossed a healthy $75.231 M through six days of release. The film is running 32.4 percent ahead of the $56.819 M six-day start of The Good Dinosaur and just 10.9 percent behind the $84.412 M six-day launch of Moana.

Warner’s Justice League placed in a close second with $2.104 M. Justice League experienced a 76.4 percent decline from Sunday and a very sharp 72.0 percent decrease from last Monday, though it should be noted that percentage declines from last Monday were sharp in general due to last Monday’s inflated pre-Thanksgiving business. Justice League continues to run below already scaled back expectations with an eleven-day take of $174.008 M. That places Justice League an underwhelming 23.6 percent behind the $227.644 M eleven-day haul of last year’s Suicide Squad.

Lionsgate’s Wonder claimed third place with $1.225 M. That represented a 77.5 percent decline from Sunday and a 69.0 percent decrease from last Monday. Wonder passed the $70 M mark yesterday and has grossed a significantly stronger than expected $71.032 M in eleven days, as the film continues to pad its status as one of 2017’s bigger surprise hits to date. Wonder is running 5.0 percent ahead of the $67.675 M eleven-day gross of 2008’s Bolt and 30.6 percent behind the $102.302 M eleven-day breakout performance of 2009’s The Blind Side.

Disney’s Thor: Ragnarok followed in fourth with $872 K. Thor: Ragnarok was down 75.5 percent from Sunday and down 64.5 percent from last Monday. Thor: Ragnarok has grossed a mighty $278.523 M in 25 days, which leaves the film $21.477 M away from reaching the $300 M domestic milestone.

Fox’s Murder on the Orient Express and Paramount’s Daddy’s Home 2 placed in fifth and sixth with respective daily grosses of $844 K and $624 K. Respective total grosses for the two films remain very close, as Murder on the Orient Express has grossed $75.208 M in 18 days and Daddy’s Home 2 has grossed $73.261 M over the same 18-day span. Both films continue to outpace pre-release expectations.
