Disney’s Thor: Ragnarok easily led the daily box office for a fourth consecutive day on Monday with a daily take of $8.248 M. Thor: Ragnarok was down 74.3 percent from Sunday’s
performance. In comparison, 2013’s Thor: The Dark World fell just 52.1 percent on its first Monday to gross $10.417 M, though it should be noted that the first Monday gross of Thor: The Dark World received a
significant boost from Veterans Day falling that day. Last year’s Doctor Strange declined 70.6 percent on its first Monday to take in $6.210 M. Thor: Ragnarok is running ahead of its already lofty expectations
with a very impressive four-day launch of $130.993 M. That places Thor: Ragnarok 43.5 percent ahead of the $91.268 M four-day haul of Doctor Strange and 36.2 percent ahead of the $96.155 M four-day start of
Thor: The Dark World. |
STXfilms’ A Bad Moms Christmas placed in a distant second with $1.339 M. That represented a 69.2 percent decline from Sunday. A Bad Moms Christmas has grossed $22.624 M in six days, which
is towards the lower end of expectations and represents a solid start with the film’s modest production budget in mind. A Bad Moms Christmas is running 33.1 percent behind the $33.828 M six-day start of last year’s
Bad Moms (which opened on a Friday and also had the advantage of stronger summer midweek business). A Bad Moms Christmas will hope to display strong holding power throughout the holiday season, which is
typically the case with holiday themed films. |
Lionsgate’s Jigsaw claimed third place with $530 K. Jigsaw was down 67.8 percent from Sunday and down a sharp 62.1 percent from last Monday (which was inflated by being the day before Halloween).
The eleven-day total for Jigsaw stands at $29.225 M. That places the film 27.2 percent ahead of the $22.978 M eleven-day gross of 2009’s Saw VI and 24.8 percent behind the $38.852 M eleven-day take of
2010’s Saw 3D. |
Warner’s Geostorm took fourth with $256 K. Geostorm decreased 72.8 percent from Sunday and a sizable 49.0 percent from last Monday. The pricey Geostorm has grossed a modest
$29.185 M in 18 days domestically, but is performing far stronger internationally (the film’s international total through Sunday stands at $154.3 M). |
Lionsgate’s Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween rounded out Monday’s top five with $241 K. Boo 2! A Madea Halloween declined 78.2 percent from Sunday and a very sharp 64.2 percent from
last Monday. The 18-day total for Boo 2! A Madea Halloween stands at $43.090 M, which places the film 34.1 percent behind the $65.417 M 18-day haul of last year’s Boo! A Madea Halloween. |
On the platform front, A24’s Lady Bird continued to impress with $41,138 from 4 locations in New York and Los Angeles. That gave the film a terrific per-location average of $10,285 for the day.
Lady Bird has grossed a very promising $406 K in four days and will expand to additional cities on Friday. |
