Daily Box Office Report
Monday, October 30, 2017

By Daniel Garris

Lionsgate’s Jigsaw grossed $1.400 M on Monday to lead the daily box office for a fourth straight day. Jigsaw was down just 63.3 percent from Sunday, as the film benefited from both good word of mouth and yesterday being the day before Halloween. Jigsaw has grossed $18.041 M in four days, which is a bit below expectations. The film is running 20.2 percent ahead of the $15.011 M four-day launch of 2009’s Saw VI and 31.2 percent behind the $26.219 M four-day start of 2010’s Saw 3D.

Fellow Lionsgate release Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween claimed second place with $672 K. Boo 2! A Madea Halloween declined 75.1 percent from Sunday and a very solid 36.6 percent from last Monday. The eleven-day gross for Boo 2! A Madea Halloween stands at $36.247 M. That is in line with expectations and places the film 33.5 percent behind the $54.506 M eleven-day haul of last year’s Boo! A Madea Halloween.

Warner’s Geostorm placed in third with $502 K. Geostorm decreased 72.8 percent from Sunday and a sharp 52.3 percent from last Monday. Geostorm has grossed $24.283 M in eleven days. While that is in line with the film’s modest expectations, it represents a lackluster domestic performance with the film’s price tag in mind. It should also be noted that Geostorm continues to perform far stronger internationally.

Universal’s Happy Death Day took fourth place with $439 K. Happy Death Day was down 66.3 percent from Sunday and down only 31.8 percent from last Monday, as the film also benefited from the day before Halloween. Happy Death Day continues to exceed expectations and impress with its low-budget in mind with an 18-day take of $48.814 M.

Warner’s Blade Runner 2049 rounded out Monday’s top five with $426 K. That represented a 67.1 percent decline from Sunday and a respectable 43.8 percent decline from last Monday. Blade Runner 2049 is the highest grossing release of this October with a 25-day gross of $81.964 M, but has had a disappointing run with expectations and its sizable cost in mind.
