Daily Box Office Report
Wednesday, September 27, 2017

By Daniel Garris

Fox’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle grossed $2.222 M on Wednesday to lead the daily box office for a sixth consecutive day. Kingsman: The Golden Circle was down a very sharp 42.9 percent from Tuesday’s performance. The six-day start for Kingsman: The Golden Circle stands at a solid, but a bit less than expected $47.740 M. Kingsman: The Golden Circle is running a slim 1.0 percent ahead of the $47.275 M six-day start of 2015’s Kingsman: The Secret Service. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Kingsman: The Golden Circle will remain in first place this weekend with $18.0 M.

Warner’s IT held steady in second place with $1.770 M. IT decreased just 27.2 percent from Tuesday, but was still down a sharp 56.0 percent from last Wednesday. In the bigger picture, IT has grossed a massive $272.214 M in 20 days. That ranks IT as the fifth highest grossing release of 2017 to date domestically and leaves the film $27.786 M away from reaching the $300 M domestic milestone. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a fourth weekend gross of $16.0 M for IT.

Warner’s The LEGO Ninjago Movie was up one spot from Tuesday to move back into third on Wednesday with $650 K. The LEGO Ninjago Movie fell a sharp 41.4 percent from Tuesday. With a significantly softer than expected six-day start of $22.952 M, The LEGO Ninjago Movie is running a discouraging 5.6 percent behind the $24.311 M six-day launch of last year’s Storks. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a second weekend gross of $13.0 M for The LEGO Ninjago Movie.

Lionsgate and CBS Films’ American Assassin was up two spots from Tuesday to claim fourth place on Wednesday with $553 K. American Assassin was down 32.3 percent from Tuesday and down a sizable 49.1 percent from last Wednesday. The thirteen-day take for American Assassin stands at $28.092 M, which is in line with expectations. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that American Assassin will gross $3.3 M this weekend.

Paramount’s mother! and Open Road’s Home Again claimed fifth and sixth place with respective grosses of $329 K and $283 K. To date, mother! has grossed a softer than expected $14.581 M in thirteen days, while Home Again is running in line with its modest expectations with $23.185 M in 20 days.

On the platform front, Fox Searchlight’s Battle of the Sexes grossed $43,512 from 21 locations, while Focus’ Victoria & Abdul took in $16,567 from 4 locations in New York and Los Angeles. Respective six-day platform starts stand at $639 K for Battle of the Sexes and at $205 K for Victoria & Abdul. This weekend Battle of the Sexes will be playing in 1,213 locations and Victoria & Abdul will be playing in 77 locations.
