Daily Box Office Report
Wednesday, September 20, 2017

By Daniel Garris

Warner’s IT grossed $4.023 M on Wednesday to comfortably lead the daily box office for a thirteenth straight day. IT was down a very solid 25.0 percent from Tuesday and down 49.1 percent from last Wednesday. IT is currently the sixth highest grossing release of 2017 to date with a massive thirteen-day take of $232.407 M. The film is running 151.7 percent ahead of the $92.348 M thirteen-day gross of 2013’s The Conjuring and just 7.1 percent behind the $250.285 M thirteen-day haul of last year’s Deadpool. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a third weekend gross of $30.0 M for IT.

Lionsgate and CBS Films’ American Assassin held steady in second place with $1.086 M. American Assassin declined a sharp 39.7 percent from Tuesday’s performance. American Assassin continues to perform in line with expectations with a six-day start of $19.019 M. That places American Assassin 2.9 percent ahead of the $18.483 M six-day launch of 2014’s John Wick. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that that American Assassin will gross $7.0 M in its second weekend.

Paramount’s mother! took in $587 K to remain in third. That represented a 32.9 percent decline from Tuesday. mother! has grossed a softer than expected $9.620 M in six days. The film is running an underwhelming 33.7 percent behind the $14.512 M six-day take of 2012’s House at the End of the Street. Due in part to poor word of mouth, BoxOfficeReport is predicting a second weekend gross of $2.8 M for mother!

Open Road’s Home Again continued to claim fourth place with $477 K. Home Again decreased 29.7 percent from Tuesday and a solid 36.6 percent from last Wednesday. Home Again continues to run in line with its modest expectations with a thirteen-day total of $18.544 M. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Home Again will gross $3.2 M in its third weekend.

Lionsgate’s The Hitman’s Bodyguard and The Weinstein Company’s Wind River took fifth and sixth place with respective daily grosses of $325 K and $301 K. Respective total grosses stand at $71.473 M for The Hitman’s Bodyguard in 34 days and at $30.120 M for Wind River in 48 days.
