Daily Box Office Report
Tuesday, September 19, 2017

By Daniel Garris

Warner’s IT took in $5.362 M on Tuesday to easily lead the daily box office for a twelfth consecutive day. IT increased 27.4 percent over Monday and decreased a sizable 53.1 percent from last Tuesday. Yesterday saw IT pass The Fate of the Furious and Logan to become the sixth highest grossing release of 2006 domestically. IT has grossed a massive $228.384 M through twelve days of release. That places IT an astonishing 154.2 percent ahead of the $89.859 M twelve-day take of 2013’s The Conjuring and just 7.3 percent behind the $246.489 M twelve-day start of last year’s Deadpool.

Lionsgate and CBS Films’ American Assassin held steady in second place with $1.802 M. American Assassin was up 40.3 percent over Monday’s performance. American Assassin continues to perform in line with expectations with a five-day start of $17.933 M. The film is running 3.4 percent ahead of the $17.339 M five-day launch of 2014’s John Wick. American Assassin will be facing new direct competition from Fox’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle starting on Friday.

Paramount’s mother! grossed $874 K to remain in third. That represented a 39.8 percent increase over Monday. The five-day total for mother! stands at a softer than expected $9.034 M. mother! is running an underwhelming 34.7 percent behind the $13.840 M five-day total of 2012’s House at the End of the Street. mother! is expected to disappear quickly from theatres due in part to poor word of mouth.

Open Road’s Home Again continued to claim fourth place with $678 K. Home Again jumped 67.1 percent over Monday and fell 41.3 percent from last Tuesday. Home Again continues to run in line with its modest expectations with a twelve-day gross of $18.067 M. That places the film 26.3 percent behind the $24.529 M twelve-day haul of 2015’s Hot Pursuit.

Lionsgate’s The Hitman’s Bodyguard and The Weinstein Company’s Wind River took fifth and sixth place with respective grosses of $451 K and $404 K. Respective total grosses stand at $71.148 M for The Hitman’s Bodyguard in 33 days and at $29.819 M for Wind River in 47 days.

In other box office news, Warner’s Annabelle: Creation passed the $100 M domestic mark on Tuesday after grossing $201 K for the day. The 40-day total for Annabelle: Creation stands at $100.077 M.
