Daily Box Office Report
Tuesday, September 12, 2017

By Daniel Garris

Warner’s IT grossed $11.435 M on Tuesday to easily lead the daily box office for a fifth consecutive day. IT was up a healthy 30.5 percent over Monday, though it should be noted that daily percentage increases were especially strong in general on Tuesday. IT has grossed a massive $143.600 M through five days of release, as the film continues to journey into uncharted waters for an R-rated horror film. IT is running an astonishing 171.0 percent ahead of the $52.995 M five-day start of 2013’s The Conjuring and yesterday saw IT already surpass the $137.400 M final domestic gross of The Conjuring. Given its daily holds thus far, IT looks to be in great shape to zoom past the $200 M domestic mark before the end of this coming weekend.

Open Road’s Home Again held steady in second place with $1.154 M. Home Again was up a terrific 84.5 percent over Monday’s performance. Home Again passed the $10 M mark yesterday and has grossed $10.347 M in five days. That is in line with the film’s modest expectations and places the film 36.1 percent behind the $16.188 M five-day haul of Reese Witherspoon’s last vehicle, 2015’s Hot Pursuit.

Lionsgate’s The Hitman’s Bodyguard took in $660 K to remain in third. The Hitman’s Bodyguard increased 67.3 percent over Monday and decreased just 28.4 percent from last Tuesday. The 26-day total for The Hitman’s Bodyguard stands at a stronger than expected $65.903 M. That places the film 1.3 percent behind the $66.767 M 26-day gross of 2014’s Let’s Be Cops.

The Weinstein Company’s Wind River continued to claim fourth place with $541 K. Wind River was up 68.2 percent over Monday and down a slim 15.3 percent from last Tuesday. Wind River has grossed $25.787 M in 40 days, which places the film 10.4 percent ahead of the $23.351 M 40-day take of last year’s Hell or High Water.

Warner’s Annabelle: Creation rounded out yesterday’s unchanged top five with $355 K. Annabelle: Creation increased 53.1 percent over Monday a decreased a respectable 44.0 percent from last Tuesday. Annabelle: Creation has grossed a stronger than expected $96.857 M in 33 days. That leaves the film just $3.143 M away from reaching the $100 M domestic milestone.
