Daily Box Office Report
Wednesday, August 23, 2017

By Daniel Garris

Lionsgate’s The Hitman’s Bodyguard took in $1.727 M on Wednesday to lead the daily box office for a sixth straight day. On the heels of Tuesday’s healthy percentage increase, The Hitman’s Bodyguard was down a sharp 39.4 percent on Wednesday. The Hitman’s Bodyguard has grossed a stronger than expected $27.916 M in six days. That places the film 44.0 percent ahead of the $19.386 M six-day start of War Dogs at this time last August. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that The Hitman’s Bodyguard will remain in first place this weekend with a second weekend take of $10.5 M.

Warner’s Annabelle: Creation held steady in second place with $1.372 M. Annabelle: Creation declined 35.2 percent from Tuesday and a sizable 51.8 percent from last Wednesday. Annabelle: Creation continues to exceed expectations and perform very well with its low production budget in mind with a thirteen-day haul of $69.273 M. The film is running 6.1 percent ahead of the $65.295 M thirteen-day take of 2014’s Annabelle. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a third weekend gross of $8.3 M for Annabelle: Creation.

Warner’s Dunkirk was up one spot from Tuesday to move into third place on Wednesday with $744 K. Dunkirk decreased 26.1 percent from Tuesday and a respectable 41.7 percent from last Wednesday. The 34-day total for Dunkirk stands at $167.829 M, which is 4.5 percent ahead of the $160.605 M grossed by 2014’s Interstellar after 34 days of wide release. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Dunkirk will place in fifth this weekend with $4.1 M.

Bleecker Street and Fingerprint Releasing’s Logan Lucky was down one spot and 35.0 percent from Tuesday to fall to fourth on Wednesday with $685 K. The six-day start for Logan Lucky stands at a softer than expected $10.002 M. That places the film 13.6 percent behind the $11.575 M six-day haul of 2013’s Side Effects. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a second weekend take of $3.9 M for Logan Lucky.

Open Road’s The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature rounded out Wednesday’s top five with $602 K. The Nut Job 2 was down 36.5 percent from Tuesday and down just 32.0 percent from last Wednesday. The Nut Job 2 has grossed a softer than expected $19.749 M in thirteen days, which places the film a lackluster 53.1 percent behind the $42.096 M thirteen-day take of 2014’s The Nut Job.
