Daily Box Office Report
Tuesday, June 27, 2017

By Daniel Garris

Paramount’s Transformers: The Last Knight took in $5.675 M on Tuesday to lead the daily box office for a seventh straight day. Transformers: The Last Knight increased 20.3 percent over Monday, which represented one of the day’s softer daily percentage increases among wide releases. With a seven-day take of $78.869 M, Transformers: The Last Knight continues to run on the low end of its scaled back expectations. Transformers: The Last Knight is running 43.0 percent behind the $138.346 M seven-day start of 2014’s Transformers: Age of Extinction and 58.1 percent ahead of the $49.884 M seven-day gross of 2015’s Terminator Genisys. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a second weekend take of $17.0 M for Transformers: The Last Knight.

Disney’s Cars 3 was up one spot from Monday to move into second place on Tuesday with $4.114 M. Cars 3 was up a healthy 41.4 percent over Monday and down a solid 39.2 percent from last Tuesday. The twelve-day total for Cars 3 stands at $105.805 M. That places the film 3.7 percent ahead of the $102.055 M twelve-day gross of 2014’s How to Train Your Dragon 2 and 16.3 percent behind the $126.383 M twelve-day take of 2011’s Cars 2. With Universal’s Despicable Me 3 entering the marketplace on Friday, BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Cars 3 will fall to sixth place this weekend with $10.5 M.

Warner’s Wonder Woman fell one spot from Monday to land in third on Tuesday with $3.905 M. Wonder Woman increased 27.3 percent from Monday and decreased just 28.3 percent from last Tuesday. Wonder Woman has grossed a massive $325.084 M through 26 days. That places the film on the verge of passing the $325.100 M final gross of last year’s Suicide Squad and just $5.276 M away from the $330.360 M final gross of last year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Wonder Woman will take in $16.5 M during its fifth weekend.

Sony’s Baby Driver was off to a nice start on Tuesday night with an estimated $2.10 M from shows that began at 7 PM. The preview gross for Baby Driver was just below the $2.20 M Tuesday night preview gross of 2013’s This Is the End and just above the $2.00 M Tuesday night preview gross of 2015’s Entourage. This Is the End went on to gross $33.027 M during its first five days of release, while Entourage was far more front-loaded with a five-day start of $17.668 M. Baby Driver has gone over extremely well with both critics and online users. The film has a score of 9.234 on our LoveHate Rate aggregate measurement of critical and online ratings, which is currently the highest score to date among 2017 releases. As is normally the case, the preview gross for Baby Driver will be counted towards Wednesday’s opening day gross.

Meanwhile, Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures’ 47 Meters Down held steady in fourth place with $1.224 M. 47 Meters Down increased 19.0 percent over Monday and decreased a slim 25.3 percent from last Tuesday. 47 Meters Down has grossed a significantly stronger than expected $26.166 M in twelve days of release. That places the film a respectable 32.0 percent behind the $38.499 M twelve-day gross of last year’s The Shallows. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a third weekend gross of $4.4 M for 47 Meters Down.

Universal’s The Mummy and Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales placed in fifth and sixth on Tuesday with respective daily grosses of $1.024 M and $935 K. Respective total grosses stand at $70.542 M in 19 days for The Mummy and at $161.799 M in 33 days for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

On the platform front, Lionsgate’s The Big Sick grossed $38,656 from 5 locations in New York & Los Angeles, while Focus’ The Beguiled took in $23,607 from 4 locations in New York & Los Angeles. Respective daily per-location averages were $7,731 for The Big Sick and $5,902 for The Beguiled. The Big Sick has grossed $501 K in five days and The Beguiled has grossed $278 K over the same five-day span. On Friday The Beguiled will expand into moderate release, while The Big Sick will expand into select cities.
