Disney’s Cars 3 took in $6.768 M on Tuesday to lead the daily box office for a fifth consecutive day. Cars 3 increased 23.5 percent over Monday’s performance. The five-day total for
Cars 3 stands at $65.938 M, which is a bit under expectations. Cars 3 is running 9.1 percent ahead of the $60.413 M five-day start of 2014’s How to Train Your Dragon 2 and 17.8 percent behind the
$80.183 M five-day launch of 2011’s Cars 2. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a second weekend gross of $27.0 M for Cars 3. |
Paramount’s Transformers: The Last Knight started out with an estimated $5.50 M on Tuesday night. The film began playing on IMAX screens at 7PM and on non-IMAX screens at 8PM. The preview
gross for Transformers: The Last Knight was 59.3 percent softer than the $13.50 M preview gross of 2011’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon, though The Last Knight wasn’t expected to perform anywhere near
as strong as Dark of the Moon. Instead, Transformers: The Last Knight opened on par with the recent $5.50 M Thursday night preview gross of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. As is
normally the case, the preview gross for Transformers: The Last Knight will be counted towards Wednesday’s opening day gross. |
Warner’s Wonder Woman placed in second on Tuesday with $5.444 M. In part from losing IMAX screens to Transformers: The Last Knight on Tuesday night, Wonder Woman was up a modest
13.2 percent over Monday. Wonder Woman was down a solid 38.5 percent from last Tuesday. Wonder Woman has grossed a strong $285.348 M in 19 days, which leaves the film just $5.98 M away from passing the
$291.046 M final gross of 2013’s Man of Steel. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a fourth weekend take of $27.5 M for Wonder Woman. |
Lionsgate’s All Eyez on Me held steady in third with $1.973 M. All Eyez on Me continued to display significant front-loading, as the film was down 6.0 percent from Monday. All Eyez on Me
has grossed a stronger than expected $30.505 M in five days. Without taking into account ticket price inflation, All Eyez on Me is running 24.7 percent ahead of the $24.465 M five-day start of 2009’s Notorious.
BoxOfficeReport is predicting that All Eyez on Me will gross $7.8 M in its second weekend. |
Universal’s The Mummy continued to claim fourth with $1.843 M. The Mummy was up 16.0 percent over Monday and down a sizable 52.6 percent from last Tuesday. The Mummy passed the
$60 M mark yesterday and has grossed $60.554 M in twelve days. The film is running 19.2 percent behind the $74.980 M twelve-day take of 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a
third weekend gross of $7.3 M for The Mummy. |
Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures’ 47 Meters Down rounded out the day’s unchanged top five with $1.594 M. 47 Meters Down increased a slim 8.4 percent over Monday. 47 Meters Down
has grossed a significantly stronger than expected $14.269 M in five days. The film is running 35.4 percent behind the $22.096 M five-day start of last year’s The Shallows. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a second
weekend gross of $5.7 M for 47 Meters Down. |
