Daily Box Office Report
Monday, June 19, 2017

By Daniel Garris

Disney’s Cars 3 grossed $5.481 M on Monday to lead the daily box office for a fourth straight day. Cars 3 declined 65.0 percent from Sunday’s Father’s Day performance. The four-day start for Cars 3 stands at $59.170 M, which is a bit under expectations. Cars 3 is running 8.6 percent ahead of the $54.508 M four-day take of 2014’s How to Train Your Dragon 2 (which declined 63.1 percent on its first Monday to gross $5.056 M) and 19.0 percent behind the $73.094 M four-day launch of 2011’s Cars 2 (which slowed 59.2 percent on its first Monday to take in
$6.958 M).

Warner’s Wonder Woman placed in second with $4.808 M. Wonder Woman was down 67.6 percent from Father’s Day and down a slim 23.3 percent from last Monday. Wonder Woman has grossed a strong $279.904 M in 18 days, which leaves the film just $11.142 M away from passing the $291.046 M final gross of 2013’s Man of Steel. Wonder Woman is running 11.2 percent ahead of the $251.622 M 18-day gross of Man of Steel and 24.1 percent ahead of the $225.546 M 18-day haul of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

Lionsgate’s All Eyez on Me claimed third place with $2.097 M. All Eyez on Me decreased 64.6 percent from Sunday. All Eyez on Me has grossed a stronger than expected $28.533 M in four days, though the film has also been especially front-loaded thus far. Without taking into account ticket price inflation, All Eyez on Me is running 22.0 percent ahead of the $23.393 M four-day start of 2009’s Notorious.

Universal’s The Mummy followed in fourth with $1.589 M. The Mummy declined a sharp 70.6 percent from Sunday and a solid 38.7 percent from last Monday. The eleven-day total for The Mummy stands at $58.711 M. That is towards the lower end of the film’s scaled back expectations and places the film 19.6 percent behind the $73.032 M eleven-day take of 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures’ 47 Meters Down rounded out Monday’s top five with $1.469 M. 47 Meters Down held up nicely on Monday, as the film was down just 52.2 percent from Sunday. 47 Meters Down has grossed a stronger than expected $12.675 M in four days. The film is running a respectable 33.7 percent behind the $19.124 M four-day start of last year’s The Shallows.
