Daily Box Office Report
Wednesday, June 14, 2017

By Daniel Garris

Warner’s Wonder Woman continued its impressive first place performance on Wednesday with $6.345 M. Wonder Woman held up nicely on Wednesday, as the film was down 28.3 percent from Tuesday and down 32.0 percent from last Wednesday. Yesterday also saw Wonder Woman pass both Universal’s The Fate of the Furious and Fox’s Logan to become the third highest grossing release of 2017 so far domestically with a 13-day take of $227.805 M. Wonder Woman is running 17.8 percent ahead of the $193.319 M 13-day gross of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy and 1.7 percent ahead of the $223.925 M 13-day total of 2013’s Man of Steel. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Wonder Woman will gross a strong $37.5 M in its third weekend.

Universal’s The Mummy held steady in second place with $2.365 M. The Mummy declined a sharp 39.2 percent from Tuesday, which represented the day’s largest daily percentage decline among wide releases. The Mummy surpassed the $40 M mark yesterday and has grossed $40.516 M through six days of release. That is towards the lower end of the film’s scaled back expectations and places the film 21.6 percent behind the $51.700 M six-day start of 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a second weekend gross of $13.3 M for The Mummy.

Fox and DreamWorks Animation’s Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie grossed $1.473 M to continue to claim third. Captain Underpants decreased 26.4 percent from Tuesday and just 19.6 percent from last Wednesday. Captain Underpants has grossed $49.281 M in thirteen days and is set to surpass the $50 M mark today. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a third weekend gross of $5.5 M for Captain Underpants.

Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales remained in fourth place with $1.341 M. Dead Men Tell No Tales slowed 27.6 percent from Tuesday and a solid 36.7 percent from last Wednesday. The 20-day total for Dead Men Tell No Tales stands at $140.305 M, which is on the low end of expectations. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will gross $6.3 M this weekend.

Fellow Disney release Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 rounded out the day’s unchanged top five with $826 K. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was down 23.2 percent from Tuesday and down a slim 17.2 percent from last Wednesday. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has grossed a massive $369.095 M through 41 days of release. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a weekend take of $4.5 M for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
