Daily Box Office Report
Monday, June 5, 2017

By Daniel Garris

Warner’s Wonder Woman took in $11.757 M on Monday to easily lead the daily box office for a fourth consecutive day. Wonder Woman declined 60.5 percent from Sunday’s exceptional hold. In comparison, 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy decreased 54.0 percent on its first Monday to gross $11.722 M, while 2013’s Man of Steel slowed 65.3 percent to take in $12.585 M on its first Monday. The four-day total for Wonder Woman stands at a strong $115.009 M. Wonder Woman is running 8.5 percent ahead of the $106.043 M four-day start of Guardians of the Galaxy and 18.6 percent behind the $141.266 M Man of Steel had grossed through four days of release.

Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales placed in second with $2.521 M. Dead Men Tell No Tales was down 62.8 percent from Sunday and down a very sharp 83.7 percent from last Monday’s inflated Memorial Day performance. The eleven-day total for Dead Men Tell No Tales stands at $117.617 M, which is on the low end of expectations. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is running a slim 1.5 percent behind the $119.427 M eleven-day gross of last year’s X-Men: Apocalypse and 28.1 percent behind the $163.608 M eleven-day haul of 2011’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Fox and DreamWorks Animation’s Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie claimed third place with $2.003 M. Captain Underpants declined 71.3 percent from Sunday’s performance. Captain Underpants has grossed $25.855 M in four days, as the film continues to run in line with expectations and perform well with its modest price tag for a computer animated film in mind. Captain Underpants is running 8.7 percent ahead of the $23.779 M four-day start of last year’s Ice Age: Collision Course and 24.9 percent behind the $34.439 M four-day take of 2014’s Mr. Peabody & Sherman.

Paramount’s Baywatch took fourth place with $1.126 M. Baywatch was down 55.2 percent from Sunday and down 75.5 percent from last Monday. Baywatch has grossed a softer than expected $43.092 M in twelve days. That places the film a disappointing 52.2 percent behind the $90.150 M twelve-day haul of 2013’s The Hangover Part III.

Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 rounded out Monday’s top five with $1.099 M. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 decreased 63.1 percent from Sunday and 82.5 percent from Memorial Day. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has grossed $356.680 M in 32 days, which places the film 26.8 percent ahead of the $281.204 M 32-day take of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
