Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 dominated the daily box office for a fourth consecutive day on Monday with a first place take of $9.863 M. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was down 74.8 percent
from Sunday’s performance. In comparison, with the aid of opening later in the summer 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy declined 54.0 percent on its first Monday to gross $11.722 M, while Iron Man 3 decreased 73.8 percent
to gross $11.268 M on its first Monday back in May of 2013. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 surpassed the $150 M mark yesterday and has grossed $156.373 M in four days. The film is performing in line with its lofty and
wide-ranging expectations. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is running an impressive 47.5 percent ahead of the $106.043 M four-day start of Guardians of the Galaxy and 15.7 percent behind the $185.412 M four-day take of
Iron Man 3. |
Universal’s The Fate of the Furious claimed second place with $601 K. The Fate of the Furious slowed 75.7 percent from Sunday and a sizable 55.1 percent from last Monday, as the film has obviously
taken a hit from the launch of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The Fate of the Furious has grossed $207.786 M in 25 days, which currently ranks as the third highest total domestic gross of 2017 (behind only Beauty and the Beast and Logan).
The Fate of the Furious is running 5.9 percent behind the $220.805 M 25-day take of 2013’s Fast & Furious 6. |
Lionsgate and Pantelion’s How to Be a Latin Lover placed in third with $392 K. How to Be a Latin Lover declined 81.6 percent from Sunday and a sizable 53.8 percent from last Monday. While it has
been surprisingly front-loaded so far, How to Be a Latin Lover has still grossed a healthy $20.941 M in eleven days. How to Be a Latin Lover is running just behind the $20.944 M eleven-day gross of 2013’s
Instructions Not Included, but will soon fall further behind the pace of that film. |
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast took fourth place with $336 K. Beauty and the Beast was down 74.7 percent from Sunday and down just 30.4 percent from last Monday. The 53-day total for Beauty and the Beast
stands at $488.076 M. That leaves the film just $11.924 M away from reaching the $500 M domestic milestone. |
STX Entertainment and EuropaCorp’s The Circle rounded out Monday’s top five with $319 K. The Circle decreased 68.4 percent from Sunday and 48.3 percent from last Monday. The Circle has
grossed a softer than expected $15.973 M through eleven days of release. |
