Universal’s The Fate of the Furious took in $3.512 M on Tuesday to lead the daily box office for a twelfth consecutive day. The Fate of the Furious was up 42.6 percent over Monday and down 56.9 percent from last Tuesday. The twelve-day total for The Fate of the Furious stands at $169.280 M. That is slightly below the film’s lofty domestic expectations and places the film 4.6 percent behind the $177.529 M twelve-day gross of 2013’s Fast & Furious 6.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast held steady in second with $955 K. Beauty and the Beast increased 50.5 percent over Monday and decreased 43.8 percent from last Tuesday. With a 40-day gross of $472.376 M, Beauty and the Beast currently ranks in tenth place on the all-time unadjusted domestic chart. The film will soon pass by the $474.55 M lifetime gross of 1999’s Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace to move into ninth place on the list.

Fox and DreamWorks Animation’s The Boss Baby grossed $848 K to remain in third. The Boss Baby was up 53.8 percent from Monday and down 55.2 percent from last Tuesday. The Boss Baby has grossed a stronger than expected $138.354 M in 26 days. The film is running 16.9 percent ahead of the $118.362 M 26-day gross of last year’s Kung Fu Panda 3 and 4.1 percent behind the $144.342 M 26-day take of 2015’s Home.

Warner’s Going in Style was up one spot and 70.0 percent from Monday to claim fourth with $719 K, while Fox Searchlight’s Gifted was up one spot and 74.2 percent over Monday to take fifth with $639.5 K. Both films held up very nicely in comparison to last Tuesday, as Going in Style was down just 33.9 percent and Gifted was up 16.9 percent. Respective 19-day grosses stand at $32.814 M for Going in Style and at $11.780 M for Gifted.

New releases occupied places six through eight on Tuesday. Warner’s Unforgettable was up 66.2 percent over Monday to take sixth with $639.3 K, Disneynature’s Born in China increased 50.0 percent to place in seventh with $534 K and Open Road’s The Promise was up a slim 2.0 percent to land in eighth with $455 K. Respective five-day grosses stand at $5.809 M for Unforgettable, at $5.680 M for Born in China and at $4.997 M for The Promise.
