Disney’s Beauty and the Beast rounded out its historic first week of release with $10.906 M on Thursday. That represented a very solid daily percentage decline of 5.5 percent from Wednesday’s
performance. In comparison, 2012’s The Hunger Games increased 1.5 percent on its first Thursday to gross $8.173 M, while last year’s The Jungle Book decreased 4.6 percent to take in $5.580 M. |
Beauty and the Beast has grossed a massive $228.606 M in seven days and registered the sixth largest seven-day start of all-time. Also of note is that Beauty and the Beast has now
surpassed the $218.968 M unadjusted lifetime gross of the 1991 version of Beauty and the Beast (which had re-issues in 2002 and 2012). Beauty and the Beast is running 20.4 percent ahead of the $189.933 M
seven-day start of The Hunger Games and an especially impressive 74.9 percent ahead of the $130.674 M seven-day gross of The Jungle Book. |
Lionsgate’s Power Rangers was off to a healthy start on Thursday night with an estimated $3.6 M from preview screenings that began at 7 PM. That was on par with the $3.6 M Thursday evening
launch of Pacific Rim back in 2013. Pacific Rim went on to gross $37.285 M during its opening weekend performance. Given its likely appeal with family audiences, odds are strong that Power Rangers will
open at least a bit higher than Pacific Rim did. As is normally the case, the Thursday night performance of Power Rangers will be counted towards the film’s opening day gross for Friday. |
Warner’s Kong: Skull Island took in $1.882 M on Thursday to continue to claim second place. Kong: Skull Island was down 10.7 percent from Wednesday and down 51.5 percent from last Thursday. For
the week, Kong: Skull Island took second place with $37.802 M. That was down 53.5 percent from the film’s opening week performance and brings the film’s two-week total to a stronger than expected $119.077 M.
Kong: Skull Island is running 7.3 percent behind the $128.517 M two-week take of 2005’s King Kong (which opened on a Wednesday). |
Fox’s Logan held steady in third with $1.401 M. Logan declined 9.8 percent from Wednesday and 50.0 percent from last Thursday. Logan claimed third place for the week with $27.784 M. Logan
was down 52.1 percent from the previous frame and has grossed $191.311 M through three weeks. That leaves the film just $8.689 M away from becoming the second release of 2017 to reach the $200 million domestic milestone. |
Universal’s Get Out grossed $1.147 M to remain in fourth. Get Out decreased 7.1 percent from Wednesday and 43.8 percent from last Thursday. For the week, Get Out placed in fourth
with $18.950 M. Get Out was down just 36.6 percent from the previous week and has grossed a very impressive $138.818 M in four weeks. That gives Get Out a current total gross to opening weekend ratio of 4.159 to 1. |
Lionsgate’s The Shack rounded out Thursday’s top five with $618 K. The Shack once again experienced one of the day’s stronger daily holds among wide releases, as the film was down 5.9
percent from Wednesday and down just 35.8 percent from last Thursday. The Shack placed in fifth for the week with $8.802 M and continues to exceed expectations with $45.287 M through three weeks of release. |
